Thanks so much for the warm welcome, Andy and Ken! A nostalgic lens for me indeed, as it was my dad's on his Nikkormat SLR at the time-- I was over the moon when getting into photography myself with the D500 in 2018 to discover that I could get John White's AI conversion on both Dad's 55 micro and his other MF lens, the 43-86 mm zoom (a much less beloved lens today haha-- but I like it because he used it at the time for portraits so it's special to me) to mount these on modern DSLR.
Somewhere in the basement in rural Pennsylvania, he still has all of these wildflower shots with it from the mid to late-70s.
I've since gone to the dark side (Sony!) for a couple of bodies, but fortunately got a D850 this past spring (late to the DSLR party, I suppose now with all the folks moving to Z), so I can still shoot these lenses Excited to see how they perform with a high-res sensor.
Awesome you got a good trade in deal with the D500! I was very sad giving it up, but it was having a shutter issue, and I got a full buy out from insurance, so I would have been silly not to take it. But I loved that camera!
Cheers guys, happy Saturday from NYC. Looking forward to a street photo Zine release in Brooklyn tonight. Community seems great thus far. I must be transparent in that I started posting to hit the 25 post threshold for PM, but I'll be sticking around, as this forum is a lot more helpful and kind than others I've found.
Another one from Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in southeast DC.

Hi Samy - such a beautiful flower and good combo.Good to see you with the Z! I've given up on keeping up with technology as what I have far outstrips my abilities! I'm loving the D500 and the D7100 and have a range of AF lenses (sorry, heresy!) that meet my needs from ultra wide to telephoto. I'm afraid my aging eyes just aren't good enough to get the most out of the MF lenses that I have. I may well end up giving them away at some stage but am a bit concerned that they won't be treated properly
I lurk but contributions will be few and far between.
Yes, this is quite the unique thread, for sure. The OP almost gave up on this thread when he started it back in 2010, but all of a sudden, it grew legs and kept going. Do watch out for NAS to hit. To avoid cutting any more lenses, you could always get a DF to go with your dad's lenses... it's on my wish list, when the used price comes down a little more
I haven't updated it in a while, but if you check profiles, you'll see some of us have gotten a little carried away with NAS/GAS. Rafael is the master collector.

So sorry for your loss, Leighton. It's hard to lose the furkids, for sure.

Peter, your abilities are way higher than you think. Get an HDMI screen for your D500 (not sure if the D7100 has the connection for an external monitor but I know the D500 does)

Chris, (the new guy). you can now see why this thread is a special place in cyberspace, just by all the comments directed to me about my dog. We have become like a family.
Ken, thank you. He was 8 years old, which is fairly old for being a large breed dog, but still died before his time.
Jack, thank you. I actually thought of you yesterday and knew you would be a little sad as you mentioned him often in our messaging back and forth. I have witnessed dogs before when one of them dies and it is like they know something is wrong. Karma will back to her old rambunctious self in a few days however. Since we are getting out of the sheep business, I have no plans on getting another Pyr.

July 4th. I came across this gentleman, who was blind, at a Vietnam War Memorial. He had a stereo playing a choir singing prayers, while he went from statue to statue, placing flags and flowers where he thought was appropriate. I watched him feel the statues to find the shape, where the hands were and the such.
It actually was a beautiful thing to behold and really touching.
I complimented him but he was in his space and I didn't want to disturb him further.

Laura, thanks for the kind words! Adding an external monitor to the paraphernalia that I schlep around would be the final straw! I'm doing a bit of flower and macro photography at the moment and am in love with my 105 2.8 micro nikkor which is another excuse to stay AF. Also I've got quite involved in the camera club scene and have been entering various salons with not much success. I know it's not the gear but IBM's fault ( Idiot Behind Machine) and if there's been any positive from this whole Covid thing , it's that I've had hours of video inspiration and practce at technique and post processing.
However, as you have reminded me , this community is too caring and too important to ignore so I'll load up my bag with a couple of MF lenses and venture forth this week
Camera clubs can be quite cliquish, though. Most I ever got entering one of the contests around here was Honorable Mentions, always seemed to be the same folks winning it.
