It s a bit surprising that you prefer the D700 files over those of the DF. Both cameras have a strong following for the " special sauce" of their sensors. The retro style DF is a looker so not too surprising that you enjoy shooting with it.
Serge
Yeah I'm on the D700 sauce team. It's not that Df files are bad. The sensor output is clearly a cut above D700 but having partaken in shooting a variety of these sensor/sauce combinations over the years, I am partial to the 12MP sensors. The tones from them are just to my liking. Also they just snap into shape so easily. On the other hand, the latter cameras' output (16mp and up) seems a bit too perfect for me. I shoot and get perfect colour, perfect greens, perfect WB. Weirdly, once I got there I didn't find it as satisfying.
So, the camera has to differentiate itself from others by maybe providing a different shooting experience. This is where I love Df, not an ergonomic marvel by any chance but I find myself more involved shooting it. I like the option of picking one over the other depending on which side of the bed I woke up. They both and others have a spot my photographic heart .

This is turning out to be a bad week on many fronts.
Work is not very pleasant at the moment.
I sent the D610 away for an IR conversion only to find out that there is a major backlog and lead times are 8 weeks. They didn't disclose that in any of my comms with them before sending it to them.
Sold the D7100 IR on eBay over the w/e only to find the buyer has not paid and won't return messages. Still it means I can still play in IR land until the eBay deal sorts itself out.
Lost most of the coolant from the old Beemer yesterday. Managed to limp home before the instrument cluster lit up. Turns out the lower end of the radiator expansion tank had popped out a half inch from its clip in housing and that meant 2 hoses had been rubbing against the alternator for some time. So now I am stuck at home alone since the kids are back in London and my wife has gone away for the week.
I really need one of those Austin Healys as a back up car.....
Sorry to hear about the trouble Colin. Hope things clear up sooner and better than hoped. In the meantine, weren't Austin Healeys the beemers of their time?
That latest cloud and barn is something else George! The clouds really pop, and there's still good differentiation between the foliage and clouds, something I think the faux lightroom infrared does not do well.
Siphiwe, I enjoy the "less work" part of the newer digital files. That said, the D700/D3 does have it's own magic but mine was getting very lonely in the cabinet; it has now gone on to someone that will take it on even better adventures than I have. Still have the D800 for a DSLR, but took it out the other day and sorely missed the EVF magnifier for focus check! When I got it right though, the almost decade old 36MP still amazes me.
Don't think I've posted this one yet, a little tube fun with the 85H; this lens has been in heavy rotation lately.

Thanks Ray. I am really happy with the R72 lens filter. And the high ISO performance of the monochrome sensor (ISO320 base ISO) still allows for handheld friendly shutter speeds. That barn shot was ISO3200 1/30sec.
I am going to take Thursday off of work and go to the NC Zoo for the first time since the day before lock down last March. I have shot the zoo dozens of times, but have never shot it in black and white only. So going to take the monochrom kit this time and throw in the IR filter to see if I can get anything interesting.
So nice to be able to get out again!
Nice job with the tubes on the 85H. I like the spiral perspective of that shot. Like looking down a spiral staircase.

Sorry about the car issues Colin. I owned e36 and later e46 BMWs in my past. Both pre-owned. Both gave surprising cooling system issues. The good thing though was there was for the time so much information on the internet about taking care of BMWs. Lovely cars to drive.
I agree, Colin. This week has been pretty awful. Sunday I got my new sous vide, bought steaks to cook with it... seasoned first steak and turned on the machine, and it started throwing STOP on the screen. Not knowing what to expect, I thought it meant it was showing stop for the button to hit... nope, no circulating water. After 3 hours of messing with it, and goggling, (manufacturer's web site is TOTALLY useless) I got a return for it, and another sent out, which arrived yesterday. Tested it, and it works, and heats the water quickly. Steak will go in there tonight when I get home.
Also Sunday, I bit into something, and my front tooth broke in half, from the gumline down. Scrambled to find a dentist that took my insurnace... first five I called did not. Made an appointment with a chain, and then one that I'd tried calling and got no answer, got back with me yesterday and had an appointment open, so made appointment there, and cancelled the chain's. Escaped with a $500 payment and a temp crown, new crown for both front in three weeks.
Spectrum wire was down on the ground. They came out Saturday to fix it, but son who lives with me slept through when they were coming. Had to redo the appointment also for yesterday. Guy ran the wire back up, only to discover that squirrels had chewed through, so all new wiring installed outside..
My plans for Tuesday, my day off, kaput.
Back to work the rest of the week.BOO HISS.
First world problems for me though.

Your week sounds worse than mine. Dentists - ugh!
First world problems indeed - and all fixable.

Took a little trip about an hour and a half SW to shoot these falls. The light wasn't the best so I had to settle for this. Shot with the 28mm f2.8 ais.

Nice! Do you know if there any trails to get down stream below the falls?
That is near Covington, right?

Thanks George. Yes, right outside of Covington. I didn't see any way to get down to the base. Where you park to see it is just a little parking area next to the road with a really steep drop off. I wish there was since it's 80 feet tall it would have made for a nice shot with a good foreground subject and better light.
Laura, I had never heard of sous vide cookers until I was figuring out how to control temperature for slide film or colour negative development. I got the CineStill one which broke down pretty quickly. Then I got a no name one which has lasted a lot longer. Glad you got one finally that works. I did read that its pretty efficient at cooking food evenly, although mine I would not use for food. Maybe someday I will get a different one for cooking.
Glad to hear the tooth issue was resolved quickly, that does sound nasty.

Wow Colin, that's a messed up buyer. And you definitely don't want to be without an IR camera! All the best with getting the car fixed.
