7 years retired now where does the time go
Happy birthday Reagan... I think a nice Nikon camera body would be the PERFECT gift to give yourself...
Interesting... you retired around the same time this thread was born. We'll have our seventh anniversary in less than two months. I feel the same way you do about time flying. I was telling someone about the thread yesterday, musing that I expected the conversation would last three weeks but it has in reality last almost seven years. We're either doing something very right, or we have too many retired folks with too much time on their hands wasting it here...
I'm sure you'll enjoy the occasion. Sorry we can't be there to raise a glass with you.

Peter, hope both of you recover fast and smoothly from this horrendous incident. Best of all, no (physical) harm done on both of you.
NMFGAS strikes again:
the 200/4 Micro is coming from Japan to my home:
Looks like a 9+ or 10- copy (however it is under the standard 10+++ or "Rafael's condition lens").
Congratulations Jose. That looks like a beauty. You've definitely been a devoted kit builder over the years. I can imagine you'll find ways to use this gorgeous lens. Every time I've stumbled on a listing for this lens I remind myself I really don't so much micro work. When I do it is generally with a regular lens and one or more extension tubes. Of course, I love seeing Andy's close work and then wonder whether I'm missing something. I'll be curious to see what you do with this well regarded lens.
Also appreciate your description above about duplicating slides using the V1 and a wide-angle lens with a tube. Very creative Jose... must be the scientist in you always engaged in problem solving. Nicely done.
I retired on 8/25/2010
Bought my first D700 that month
Joined FM about 8 months earlier with a D300
I am still looking for that perfect camera I do miss the OVF viewfinder I find it much easier for composition
I have recently bought another car form a neighbor She is 91 and her son won't let her drive anymore
It is a 2000 Ford Crown Vic in mint condition with only 38,500 miles on it and I got it for a song
Its like riding my couch down the road
When I was 18 my friends and I would look at old people in their giant cars and laugh
saying that could never be us but here I am

most of today's, kids don't even notice cars. They have an app to flag one down. They will probably do that when they are old, too, although in most of Florida they will need to flag down boats in 50 years.
Ingrid and I are so very moved by the kindness you have shown to us. Getting home was a great shock but we were somewhat prepared having had a chance to hook up to an internet signal en route home and to see some of the videos of our fire. Sadly 6 people have lost their lives, two of them firefighters from out of town. South Africa's response has been overwhelming and the energy displayed in reinstating services is amazing. If we could work like this all the time SA would rival Singapore!
We are without power and this is com my cell phone. But like Arnold "I will be back"
Thank you all again and to Siphise who I have not met "Yabonga gakhulu" for taking the time to inform the NMFG community. You are one of us in spirit.

Happy birthday Reagan, and I"m jealous of the car..... I couldn't find one when I was hunting for a replacement. LOVE the trunks on those cars. Now if you get tired of it....

Peter in S.A - Glad your homestead survived a horrible event. My parent's house was devastated by fire a few years ago. Very traumatic.
Huss - super capture
Steve - the Lancia Delta was a dream car for me many decades ago. Still love the shape.
I am still playing around in the mid-day sum with my 10 year old D80 IR.
The 85mm 1.8 H continues to impress in infrared. A lunchtime jaunt around the canals beckoned today.
one of my few recent MF shots - an odd combo off D500 with 16mm f/3.5 AI. Post race I don't need reach, so the FX body went onto the long lens, and to give the D500 some use, I went as wide as I could go by using the fisheye on the crop sensor. Wide enough for most things I saw worth aiming the camera at

Laura I thought of you when he said it was a"Crown Vic." Now if we can get him to think of it as a Nikon, he'll be selling it in a month 😱😱😱😱
Hi, newbie here. Am I allowed to introduce myself?
Recently purchased a 35 f/2.8 AI and a 135 f/2.8 AI'mod. I am having lots of fun with the 135 practicing manual focusing. I have yet to use the 35 AI soon. I'm advanced amateur, if that makes sense.
This thread is so long, I don't know where to begin. I suppose I should do a search on my lens to see who else has these lens, for tips?
Jose, congratulations on the 200mm micro, always wanted one. Those can be had for good prices from Japan but by the time you pay customs tax it will cost you a pretty penny, proof of you commitment to photography.
In consolation I had to buy a "Rafael" condition - new in box - 105mm 4.0 micro, these are the ebay photos.

Welcome to the addicted bunch, be careful or you will find yourself with 200 lenses!

I'm very glad you and your wife are safe, Peter, but sad to hear of the losses. It is especially sad to me when the first responders who take such risks on all our behalves end up making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Happy birthday, Reagan, and best wishes for many happy returns.

Welcome to this marvelous thread/community, Renele97. If you don't feel up to following Reagan's recommendation by starting from the first of our ~6100 pages, perhaps begin by posting some photos taken with one or both of your manual focus Nikkors, so we can get to know your style.
I've been very busy over the past couple of weeks moving into to our new home on Vancouver Island, unpacking boxes, putting things away, doing the administrative tasks involved in becoming citizens of British Columbia, etc.; but I have been keeping up with this thread and "Liking" the great photo posts. I haven't yet had time to get out with my camera, so for now I'll have to settle for continuing to post photos from our drive across Canada. The set below is intended to highlight some of the cloud formations we saw in the prairies' big sky. All were shot with MFNG, of course (though I'm not sure which ones), on my little Fuji X-E2 and processed through the Lightroom app on my Android phone.
Actually the 135mm AI'modified. Very similar to that one though. I absolutely love it, still a little shakey on manual focusing but when I do get focus it is incredibly sharp! I got that lenses and the 35 AI for a total of $145!

I'm going to be 44 this year and I have been looking at the Crown Vic for the last few years. Had I not inherited my dads truck, I would probably be driving one too.

Nice shot!
Welcome aboard Renele97 that was the lens I used with Nikkormat FTn in early 80's .
