Fires are scary, ugly events, normally people have time to save themselves but losing the entire contents of a home is not a good outcome. Glad you only lost a deck.
Hope your neighbors are safe and have the means/insurance to rebuild.

A great deal has ahppened since i last logged on to this thread,
Ingrid and I left Knysna on Sunday 4 june for a long awaited and carefully planned trip to the Kruger National Park about 1200 miles away. At our stage in life we no longer hurry and break the trip into about 4-500 mile daily bites so that we can take in the scenery and explore the small towns that we visit. The trip north was lovely, cold clear winter weather and delight that we were leaving behind a threatened cold front and the first winter storm. To our horror we heard of devastating fires in our area on Wednesday.
It got worse, Knysna was ablaze and in our estate everyone was evacuated. We kept listening for phone pings and Whats app updates. We didn't sleep at all and woke like zombies on Thursday wondering if our house had been razed as we expected. Amazingly we had got away lightly - only a deck , some outdoor furniture were burnt. 30 of our estate community lost everything and about 300 houses in the town were lost. 10 000 residents were affected.
We will get home tomorrow to our beautiful town now resembling a moonscape. Friends have offered accommodation until we get services restored and we are totally apprehensive but are prepared. We are grateful to have been spared the trauma of watching the flames and not knowing.
No pics tonight but just a chat to my very good friends in the Nikon MF thread with whom I feel such a sense of community. Thanks for being there even though I haven't met any of you personally....Show more →
What a relief Peter. Thanks for letting us know you're okay. I'm amazed to find myself so moved to hear from you. I wrote at another website about what we've been doing here, in particular, how these distant cyber connections have become so meaningful. Somehow, through time and despite distance, we have become friends. In a perfect world we'd all be sitting around a table and chatting with one another, but alas that isn't going to happen. So we'll remain friends from a distance. Blessings to you, Ingrid and all the folks of Knysna. Have a safe trip home.
Thank you all for chiming in with your thoughts on usage of larger images. It looks like we can continue to use discretion when posting images to this forum. I certainly do use different devices and even mobile sometimes so the full screen suggestion given by Andy would be my preferred choice there.
I will continue usage of 1xxx and where I have problem is that Flickr doesnt allow intermediate sizes after 1024x768. The next jump is 1600x1200 with the BB code.
I would like something like 1300 ish which would be nice but isnt an option.

It depends what size you upload to flickr. My max or original, is 1200x800, which is the size I upload from LR.

Hi Reagan,
Thank you for the response.
Yes, this is the Fort in old San Juan. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to go inside.
This is a small fragment of the wall.
Have a nice time in November.
P.S. This fort is much older than you

I realized that this wall looks like a ship that is ready to set sail.
Last days I made some experiments using the tiny V1 sensor + 28/2.8 ai-s to dupe some old slides.
It is like doing a ~50% crop on the original slide. Good for tiny subjects on slides.
Bran-colored Flycatcher: it was truly small in the original slide.
Old slide (Fujichrome RDPIII Provia F 100 - pushed to ISO 200) from February 2002, Brazilian Savannah, Prata-MG.
F90x + tripod + Nikkor 400mm f/5.6 ED non-IF.
Duped by V1 (@ ISO 100) + FT1 + 12mm extension tube + Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 ai-s@f/8 + ES1 slide copy device. This combo makes a ~50% crop on the original slide, and I made an additional 52% crop on the V1 image (5.2/10Mp).
Other samples will be posted on the MF - AF thread, since they were originally captured with a 75-300 AF zoom.
