Although I don't have the kit to participate in this thread, I follow it keenly. I notice my compatriot Peter(from Knysna) has been missing for a bit. Just thought I'd let his friends know if you don't already, Knysna and sorrounds was devastated by a fire last week. Hoping all is well with him and his loved ones.
Thanks for the info. I recall Peter saying he was going on a trip to Kruger Park. Wishing well to him and all those affected in that area. That is some stunning video.

Thank you Siphiwe, Must be Peter Oosthuizen (Oosty). I have had to leave my house in San Diego a couple of times due to fires, but other houses did burn around. Hope that Peter is only evacuated with no loss.

Thanks for the heads up Siphiwe. Peter O has been a good friend of the thread for many years, though like most of us he has taken a few sabbaticals along the way. He has been posting recently, however. Hopefully he and his partner are okay. Watching the video you so kindly offered to us, the thing that strikes me is how fire can destroy one building while leaving its neighbor untouched. But a fire like this is surely devastating for a community. I wish the best for the community and for our good friend.
Thanks for letting us know Siphiwe. Hoping Peter and his family are okay.

Couple of weeks ago, I had asked for advice on monitors. After lot of searching and looking for deals, I stumbled upon a rarely used Apple Thunderbolt 27" Display that was quite a deal here in Atlanta area.
I picked it up and now will share my thoughts on how this combo looks. The display is stunning with 2560x1440 which seems ideal for our work.
So my question to team here is, 2017, what is the max image size that we can share here? 1024 now seems so small.
Congratulations on your new monitor Ram. Having been working on a 27" iMac for the last five years I understand your excitement. What Apple so does that causes pain, is change the connectors used with devices. I moved from a Mac Pro with four internal drive bays to the iMac simply because the 27" display that preceded the Thunderbolt had a connector that wouldn't work with the Mac Pro. The adaptor cost over a hundred bucks so I decided to buy the iMac instead. Hopefully you'll get years of good service out of that monitor, but you could be in trouble in the future if you upgrade. As much as I love the OSX operating system, this designed obsolescence from Apple disturbs me.
With regard to file size there is what Fred prefers, what this thread has encouraged and then REALITY...
In the past we've tried to keep post to 1000 pixels, in part because some among us have slower internet connections. But increasingly, we're seeing larger and larger files and have seldom encountered complaints. Personally, I've begun posting images at 1200 pixels max in landscape orientation and 1000 max in portrait orientation. My personal exception is for a panorama, which I'll allow myself to size at 1600 pixels. Of course, I encounter the challenges of image size when using my MacBook Air, which I am at the moment. I have the 13" version with 1440 pixel monitor, which means larger images have me scrolling left and right as well as up and down.
Since most of us don't host our images on FM, it would seem file size would be of less significance to Fred. That means it is more a matter of courtesy to our friends in how we size our images. You may wish to experiment at bit to see what feels right for you. And, I imagine your question will elicit response from others who hang out here. We haven't discussed this topic in a long time. Perhaps we need to once again... not for FM, but for ourselves.

Ram,
I've been using it for the past 3 years at work and just recently realized why my images are pretty horrible on FM.
Well, I'm still using my 5 year old laptop with a max resolution of 1600x900 on its 17" monitor. The larger images, I either scroll sideways, or just ignore, depending on how much time I have.

Curtis, I totally agree. I’ve switched from Windows to Apple for photo editing for several reasons. Primarily, color management works so much better with Apple devices. And I’ve never seen a laptop other than a MacBook that has a decent color gamut. Colors just don’t look right on them no matter what ICC profiles or color balancing are applied. So I’m currently using a 27-inch Thunderbolt display because any better display was going to cost me around $3K.
That said, I get totally infuriated with Apple’s “designed obsolescence.” From the start Apple has been a company that makes it’s money from hardware and only incidentally produces software to make the hardware work. So to keep making money, they have to design in obsolescence. OS X is a robust and stable OS. But the earlier OS versions were a joke. The early versions didn’t even have a heirarchical file system. It was not possible to have two or more files anywhere on the computer with the same file name since all data files were dumped into one location. Folders were a way of grouping files for the convenience of the user, but they didn’t actually segregate files.
A great deal has ahppened since i last logged on to this thread,
Ingrid and I left Knysna on Sunday 4 june for a long awaited and carefully planned trip to the Kruger National Park about 1200 miles away. At our stage in life we no longer hurry and break the trip into about 4-500 mile daily bites so that we can take in the scenery and explore the small towns that we visit. The trip north was lovely, cold clear winter weather and delight that we were leaving behind a threatened cold front and the first winter storm. To our horror we heard of devastating fires in our area on Wednesday.
It got worse, Knysna was ablaze and in our estate everyone was evacuated. We kept listening for phone pings and Whats app updates. We didn't sleep at all and woke like zombies on Thursday wondering if our house had been razed as we expected. Amazingly we had got away lightly - only a deck , some outdoor furniture were burnt. 30 of our estate community lost everything and about 300 houses in the town were lost. 10 000 residents were affected.
We will get home tomorrow to our beautiful town now resembling a moonscape. Friends have offered accommodation until we get services restored and we are totally apprehensive but are prepared. We are grateful to have been spared the trauma of watching the flames and not knowing.
No pics tonight but just a chat to my very good friends in the Nikon MF thread with whom I feel such a sense of community. Thanks for being there even though I haven't met any of you personally.

Good to know you are safe and sound, Peter, I was worried.
Peter,
That is really good new for you and Ingrid ... relax and be grateful.

RAM, I would I vote for sticking with 1024. Many laptops are not going to cope with larger images well + it adds to the file size. I run dual 27" monitors (one 4K - lots of hoops to jump and make photoshop usable) on my desktop computer, but all my laptops are far, far lower resolution. Maybe you could add a second monitor for viewing photos on the web - Enjoy the new monitor.

Thank you George, very useful post.
this is the lens in question, heavy brass build, perfect glass, no dust, like new! after 50+ years.
Rafael, sorry for the delay in posting. Here are some shots with that same lens and adapters for the Fuji. Sony and others have adapters available as well. I just like how these lenses match the X-Pro2.
First one is with the lens and the two step adapter I use. The M39/LTM to Leica M ring is on top of the M to Fuji X adapter. LTM to M is very thin.
Second is showing the lens with these adapters attached.
Third one self explanatory (lens mounted)
Fourth - is with the LTM 3.5cm f3.5 to show how small it really is adapted. I love shooting with this lens combo.
