How’s the quality of the conversion? I have a handful of scalloped lenses generally in great shape. I’d like to get them converted but don’t want to have them all beat up.

Hey Curtis. It is fun walking through the local shops hunting down lenses, and there a lot, but ones in really good condition are priced way too high IMO. Way too high. Like 100% too high

I found the 24/2.8 N.C. & 35/2 O on eBay (Japan) ...

And the 105/2.5 PC HK version I found on our own local classifieds. I use Google translate (this guy speaks excellent English though) to make the deal over WhatsApp and then we meet at a Metro stop somehwre and do the trade. I must be one of the only "Gweilos" who use this

I had to repeat this... those are gorgeous lenses Dean. Now tell us the truth... bought from local Hong Kong stores? Or purchased online. I have fantasies about wandering through local shops with hundreds of manual focus Nikkor lenses to browse... There always seem to be Hong Kong offerings when I search E-Bay. Inquiring minds...

I visited the main malls that are full of used lens stores when we were in HK and the prices didn't seem that great. Most of my stuff comes from ebay sellers in Japan.

Breaking off from my shots from Magnetic Island as I took a ride up to Port Douglas today on my new steed. 2010 BMW R1200GS ADVENTURE.

I flew down to Brisbane last week, visited my daughter India and her partner, picked up the bike and rode it back to Cairns, 1200 miles.

The Adventure comes with crash bars, engine protection, heated grips, ABS, Traction Control, luggage, spot lights, bash plate, 33 litre fuel tank ! and ESA - Electronically Adjustable Suspension (Comfort/Normal/Sport + 1Rider/1 Rider + luggage/2 people/2 people+luggage etc., Off Road Enduro mode etc.) , spoked wheels, tyre pressure sensors, longer travel suspension/increased ground clearance, cruise control.

Fully fueled it weighs 564 pounds

I did have to sell my car though !

Late to the party Phong but definitely need to congratulate you on the shot of your daughter. It is gorgeous. Love the other photos you've been sharing as well.

With all the weather challenges at the moment I hesitate to share this photo I took today during a ramble around Bon Tempe reservoir near where I live. It was in the mid-seventies today, a bit windy but sunny. The few hikers I encountered were courteous and maintained distance so my effort to stay safe is still working well. That is disappointing... though in reality the only time I've been in Hong Kong was an hour layover on my way to Delhi in 1995. I don't expect I'll ever visit one of those shops. I HAVE, however, spent a great deal of time on E-Bay and have many gorgeous lenses shipped from Japan. I just checked the spreadsheet I keep on lens purchases and 33 out of 47 were bought on E-Bay. In addition, all four extension tubes and three teleconverters were E-Bay purchases... We know where to go, don't we?

PS - That is a gorgeous motorcycle Andy! Well done... not only buying it but SURVIVING a 1200 mile ride to get it home!

Sweet looking ride. Did you use cruise control much on that 1200 mile journey?
I am a huge BMW car fan and have owned 3's ad 5's since 1988 - but have never ridden any of their bikes.

I’m not sure yet as the lenses still haven’t arrived. He gets a lot of positive feedback online though. There are a couple of places that do it here, but I was warned that they are pretty shoddy.

Thanks. Still settling in on the exact kit I want to send off. Got a clean 35/2.8 but think I want to hold out for a clean 35/2 OC, anyway, would love to hear what you think when they come back.

Couple shots from the NAI 105/2.5 Sonnar.

Haha, thanks Curtis !

I did encounter lots of Road Trains in rural Queensland (3 or more trucks linked together), especially one Day 1 which ended with me riding straight into the setting sun, overtaking Road Trains and the last part in darkness, hoping that there was no wildlife about (kangaroos !), nearly running out of fuel (despite having over 400 miles per tank I was pushing on and fuel consumption went up as a consequence) and an unscheduled 50 kms short cut on a dirt road that google maps sent me on

I split the rest of the journey into 2 parts due to this !

Haha cheers Colin. I didn't use the car much anyway

Yeah, as someone who has owned 6 x 7 Series Beemers myself I too appreciate the allure of the Blue & White Roundel

My last in the UK was the 5.4L V12 750iL and my last here was an 01 735 V8

This bike is of course the successor to the 1150GS put on the map by Charlie and Ewan in Long Way Round. The engine technology is not that advanced compared to say the KTM - an oil cooled 1200cc boxer putting out 115HP (the KTM, Ducati etc put out 150hp) but they are notoriously unburstable and of course no radiator for errant stones to puncture.

They have been refining the design for 30 years so it should be reliable.

The cruise control on mine is not factory (you need fly by wire electronic throttle for proper cruise control on bikes), it is a device that essentially locks the throttle twist grip, made by a company called Wünderlicht. There is a knurled ring at the far end of the handlebar that you have to turn to lock it.

Consequently I didn't like it at first as it makes the twist grip stiff to move and going up or downhill the speed rises or falls without further input. But once I got used to adding a little more or a little less throttle to compensate it was a very welcome addition as your right hand gets pretty tired from holding it for 7 or 8 hours.

Here's my last BMW. Loved that car had to sell it when I jacked in my job here as a Structural Draughtsman

You really are doing a lot of great work with that 55 f1.2. Just taking the F6 for a test drive? I need to get 55 f1.2 AI out, though it will be on my Z6 not F6 😀

Thanks I really love this lens. It’s so much fun to use. It can do anything from being arty and dreamy to ridiculously sharp with a few clicks of the aperture ring.

Yeah, just a test drive with the F6 for now. Pretty hard camera to pass up though. You really feel like you have a piece of history In your hands when shooting this thing. The attention to detail and just the overall perfection that went into this cam is mind blowing.
