The 18 3.5 is, as the 20mm UD, sharp to the corners at 3.5 if you match the field curvature. The 18mm is a little sharper and a little easier to fit a plane in, it also does a lot better against sunlight, as shown below.
For those of us who recently saw Midway, for your enjoyment the Dauntless, Scout Bomber Douglas.
Case in point, with the 18mm at 3.5 the entire wing and the main body of the plane are tack sharp with a D800, just the ends of the tail get a bit soft as they do not curve in closer, the way the lens field of focus does.
And finally for today with the 18mm 3.5. Ken's favorite plane also at the Midway. These are old photos, hopefully with better processing they carry some interest. Light here is difficult. These are at 5.6.
Couldn't decide whether I wanted to shoot my new 55/1.2 S.C. on film or digital, so I took both the F100 and Sony A7iii Changing bodies soon became a PITA, and I ended up using only using the F100 after a while. I did get a few comparison shots, though. I think the bokeh from this lens on film looks beautiful.
I used Kodak Ultramax 400, which has become my favourite film stock. It has such a "filmy" look about it, great saturation and surprisingly fine grain. Scanned on my V-ED using Negative Lab Pro. The first shot was @ f/1.2 and the next two @ f/2.

Congrats on the new lens. I agree, the bokeh in the film looks really nice. You have inspired me to mount my 55 SC next time at the market.

BTW...what does the Meta35 device do?
Hey Leighton. It’s a metadata extractor. It pulls the shooting data out of the F100 via a USB dongle connected to a data cable into the 10 pin port. You then point their software to your images and it writes the exif data to the files. Totally unnecessary But why not
I don’t think it will recognise the FL of a non-cpu lens but I may be able to add it. Not sure yet. Only the F6 can do that.
Pretty neat product. Shame they aren’t updating the Mac software anymore.
It is a shame/pain. I have an old MB Pro that’s on 10.10.5 that’s running the Meta35 software. And a MacBook Air on 10.6.8 thats running the Nikon Scan4 for the V-ED.

I run my Coolscan on Win 10. There’s a signed driver package out there that still works. Bootcamp is good for things like this.

I couldn’t do something like boot camp. It would be like changing religion or defecting to the dark side of the force. I’ll have to keep slogging it out with the Rebel Alliance

Grown up in the flat farmer county of Skåne I´m always amazed when I reach the northern parts of Sweden and get to see some mountains. Passing the border to Norway (which we didn´t this trip) then it gets breathtaking, the nature over there is even more dramatic.
For now this is what I got
Small fall on the the way up. A flyfishers dream (George), it was packed with brown trout. Didn´t bring the rod cause it´s a protected stream Small Fall by Kankara Karlhag, on Flickr
Some impressive houses standing on the mountains edge.

Dean, the 55mm 1.2 does fine on sensors but it looks remarkably nice on film. I don't have the Coolscan 5000 but I have th cheaper slower V ED. Will look for ways to resurrect it.

Man you are killing me with those shots Kristian! I am melting over here with upper 90's temperatures this week. Would love to be in a cool mountain stream.
