OK. I am forcing myself to do this challenge, at least one shot per day. I wasn't able to shoot yesterday as I had a nice migraine...
I also did a thing... This is for those folks that are shooting on Fuji, using a Zhongui Lens Turbo II and Nikon glass. This chart shows what the focal length of the lens "sees" using the focal reducer and what you need to set the in-camera lens data to be, in case you use the in camera JPG's (barrel control mostly).
Good eye Kevin. Like the composition. Thanks for the conversion chart, good info.

Pandemic challenge topic: Circles:
The circle of Life. As one tree dies and creates a new clearing, another one takes it's place to grow for many years and fill up that spot, one day blocking out the sunshine itself.
Steve - good looking pizza pie. We had some for supper tonight but it was a pick up from a local mom and pop shop that will hopefully stay in business.
I'm not so sure we should go as far as Buddy has gone in interpreting the word circle, but I'm just playing along. This shot on a ramble this afternoon with the 80-200 f/45 AI then converted in Silver Efex Pro 2.
Two more from today. I actually had some time to shoot.
First one is:
11. Close focus... micro/tubes and I guess could be number 8 too since it was taken through the window.
My wife saw a lot of yellow finches coming to a small water bath she has on the railing of our deck. I set up the 300mm f/2.8 Ai-S but needed the PK-13 tube since it was inside the minimum focus distance of the lens. So I waited and waited and waited. No birds. But I did have this little fellow come along. I guess good thing for him there were no birds
Second one is:
8. Out the window showing the set up used above.
Not part of the challenge but I recall the comment about folks putting stuffed animals outside, perhaps for the passing children, of which there are quite a few. I ran into this fellow on my walk this afternoon.
Folks are likely aware that bright reds can be challenging on a Nikon sensor. I invariably need to back off exposure but more importantly diminish luminance in Lightroom to get a close approximation to what I saw. It is a bit of an adventure.

Back to life, my fall left me stunned for one day, in pain for two, and now just a swollen foot that does not hurt much and should heal soon, will count my self lucky.
This is an old slide taken with an F2 on at 28mm 2.0 and scanned on a soolscan V ED. 16 bit tiff processed capture NXD.

What a beautiful flower - what is it?
You're asking the wrong fellow Doug. I just hold the camera steady and press the shutter release...
I remember asking a friend whom I've mentioned here before, George Ward, whose photos end up on magazine and calendar covers about his apparently deep knowledge about plants since he refers to common and latin names for his photos. He said he always send the photos to a botanist who tells him what the specimen is. I have no need for such support. I honestly don't remember seeing this flower before this Spring. This is the second time I've posted a photo from my neighbor's front yard. She has had a few of them.
This might actually be the same flower before it opens... I took it a few days ago in the same general vicinity...

Curtis, are you sure it was not your idea to put "circles" on the challange list? Very nice!
Thanks Scott. I had circles and something round but George suggested we just use "circles." I liked that. It added a bit of a challenge. I hadn't thought of the Audi until I was walking and saw the emblem on the rear of a car. But it was situated in a place that I couldn't get close. It was near the end that I ran into this car. I took three shots of the back end, then came around to the front and saw the grill. I knew I'd found my circles...
I should have put something about snow on the list so we could get you into the game Scott... but then I think you're the only person left in North America who is still contending with the stuff. Come and join us... it is all for fun!

I still have the 28/2 ai lens you sold me years ago
Its about the only thing I have never sold

And I regretted it so much that I ended up with a 28/2 AI-S and 28/2.8 AI-S later on and the 28/1.8 that pushed it out is long gone! These as well as the diminutive 28/3.5 make fine companions to Nikon’s 50-58mm lenses
How are you doing? You’re not going to drive up to the Space coast for the NASA Crew Demo 2 mission are you? I’d love to come watch but I don’t think it’s in the cards for me.

Glad to hear you're doing well. How many now? Last I recall you had two.
Five with one on the way; our little lady is very glad to have a sister joining the group. How have you been?
Rafael, glad you didn’t end up in worse shape! Hope you are on the mend soon.
Curtis, I love seeing your humble abode; it’s cozy and perfect; Nikki and I often insist that we’d be very happy with 800-1200 square feet maximum; so long as there is a small climate controlled storage building/shipping container to store the freezers/out of season clothes/etc. There’s a great big world to explore so a bit of space to stay dry in the rain and lay down/cook out of the wind/bugs is really about all it takes.
As always, the images are really enjoyable. Perhaps I should find the photo challenge lists.
Two macros from the past couple of days. The day before yesterday it was heavily overcast and i shot the flower from a tripod and focus stacked 4 images. The poor light affected the contrats somewhat 300EDIF +PN11+TC14b
Yesterday was a superb autumn day, sunny and balmy. We've haven't had meny butterflies this year but this one was very obliging. Unfortunately her wings are very much worse for wear but still pretty.

I find this a very effective combination as I can get a shot without spooking the subject.
George was willing to play with me this afternoon/evening and we came up with the challenge below. Our intention is to challenge ourselves within the constraints likely at play for us in the moment. Below is a PNG file created from a screenshot of the document I created out of our exchange of PMs. Have fun with this... and obviously, if one or more of the challenges doesn't work for you, perhaps you could tweak it and have some fun with all of us. Prizes will be announced at the end...
George told me to change the 11 at the bottom to 12 but I was too confused to make the correction. If the disparity is troublesome for you... have another glass of something with alcohol in it and think about something else... ...Show more →
