Yes, I did.

I was debating getting a Fuji X-T4, but the recent promotion for the E-M1X brought it down to just about the same price so I took the plunge, partly because of their latest firmware update, and partly with an eye towards possibly getting a 150-400 Pro next year.

Today was the first outing with my new super-duper, plastic-fantastic, fall-off-a-log low cost, Silver Bullet Olympus 40-150 lens. I got this lens at the Olympus refurbished site in brand new condition for less than $50 delivered.

So how good is it? Not bad I think when paired with my small kit E-M10 III camera. Here's some from the first test run.

What fun......

The cheap 40-150mm is a hidden gem. I got mine for free from someone who couln't get rid of it for money. I mostly use it at f/8, and except for some softness in the corners, it's very very sharp. At shorter focal lengths, it's fully acceptable wide open.

Awesome. I am really loving mine which I bought a few weeks after you sold yours. In fact I got it because I knew I wanted the 150-400... which I ordered.

Went out to a area small lake and was trying out the Bird Ai. Found a Great Blue Heron on the shore line trying to fish through the ice. GBH was on a rock and I decided to try Pro-capture high as it would strike within the focus plane. Also I have it set to 60 fps. The GBH shifted to the near side of the rock and I quickly switched to Pro-capture low and Bird Ai tracking. It allows tracking with Bird Ai in low mode. As soon as I made the switch the GBH flew, and into our direction. Nailed down the shutter and followed the GBH.

The image I did not spend much time in post, some quick Lightroom and Topaz noise di. I'll get back to it and edit it proper later. Cheers...

Good capture. You sure as hell don't need Bird Ai to nail herons in flight though.

That's for sure.... Had it on hoping to get a sequence going after a fish, conditions changed and just went with it. Session was more of to have Bird Ai on and see what it can and can't do and when to use it. Thanks for the comment.

My 300mm f4 arrived last night, and I had a chance to try it out this morning before the wind and rain started again. The light was terrible, but that's par for the course here this time of year.

How are you liking the Olympus 300mm compared to the Panasonic 200mm that you had?

I like the Oly 300 so far, but I think the Panasonic 200 f2.8 is (was) a bit sharper, and the f2.8 aperture would be nice to have this time of the year. The 200mm is long enough for most backyard birds, but I wanted something longer for smaller birds like the hummingbirds, and for less habituated birds like herons, eagles, etc. without always having to add teleconverters.

If I didn't have the E-M1X I would probably stick with Panasonic lenses for the extra bit of IS compatibility, but both lenses are great no matter which camera you use.

Gorgeous hummingbirds, Tony.

So different than the Ruby Throated, which are the only ones we get here in the northeast.

Cheers,

George
