Ronny, nice dog pictures. I have the lens but probably can never get a sharp focus on a running Germany Shepherd. Our family will be joined by a sheepdog puppy next month. Will have to put away my VS and grab the Canon AF lenses for pictures.
I put a pre-focusing at a point where I anticipate the dog to run
I will be honest, it's maybe 2-3 maximum of 10 shot that can be used
No it's not a easy lens to handhold
and it's not easy to see if it is in focus in the viewfinder ..it is a bit shaky "esp" when you magnified focus
Ibis has been set to 300 MM and I don't know if it's obtimalt?
you should probably change the IBIS setting on every focal length you use ..
gets a little tricky to do that on every image ..
On tripod it's probably no major problems to focus
Seems to be a great lens
You learn to use it correctly the more you use it .. I think
More testing today

Great shots Manuel. Definitely among the best I have seen.
Thank you very much! Those pictures have been taken on tripod but with a poor adapter and my A7r shutter vibration included so in the end I've been also lucky with the result.

That's exactly why I sold this lens again.
Optical performance is beautiful when focus is right, but ...
The lens is *VERY* sensitive regarding focus. Aiming at a subject 200 m away at 300mm FL, a few 1/10 mm change of focus ring shows enormous defocus in the viewfinder. To see that, you have no chance without IBIS 'on', set to 300 mm. If you now change FL a few mm (say 300 to 280), you first have to adjust IBIS for the new FL, then compose and focus. Without IBIS, no chance (at least for me) to really nail focus. And only then, this lens shines.
You have to adjust IBIS for each and every shot. Without IBIS (set to 'off') you have *no* chance to judge focus.
If the lens could automatically transmit the FL actually used to the camera and IBIS would adjust itself automatically, then I would buy one again, without hesitation. No brainer.
But in the field, using it for something that moves, is really awkward, that's my experience.
Love the lens. It may be tricky handheld, especially at 300mm by the limits - ie slower than 1/300 even if you set IBIS accordingly. It will render perhaps 1 in 3-4 shot spot on. And if something is moving, far less if you're not able to pre focus. That is when you want to use Canon and some long white L lenses, they're great for that. But this lens produces more punch than most. And for a shot like this, something like 150-175mm wide open, you'll get 2 out of 3 perfect. Just checked, 1/90 sec (handheld by the waist).
It works great on novoflex adapter Manuel Novoflex collar
but the screw comes close grip when you shall have it so that the tripod plate comes under the lens . doesent matter if you have it on tripod.. if you have it on and handhold when it is difficult to hold around the grip .. but then I keep under the Novoflex collar instead

Ronny, have you tried mounting the collar so that the tripod plate is under the camera and the screw is on the other side? This should also work on tripod, and when hand holding, the screw is out of the way.
well it can be done .. but I imagine that there will be more strain on the the lens mount on the camera..have not checked whether it is possible to turn the plate on which is screwed on the tripod collar
On A7R II, perhaps it does not matter much .. but was on the A7 as I thought about this and then I have not thought more of this .. A7 is very weak at this point
Edit: It works .. what an idiot I am
the fit is not optimal .It probably not matter much

I've tried what @PEKA62 suggested. I moved the screw to the other side. It works much better and it's a great solution. However, I don't think the Novoflex tripod adapter is very secure when rotating the lens.

Don't know if this is the best way .. camera and lens will be more front-heavy on the tripod with the plate directing under camera instead ?
not very secure when rotating the lens.. do you mean when you Zoom or focusing the lens on tripod ?
Ronny
Just remove the small screws on the base of the Novoflex clamp and the base can be moved so it is under the lens with the clamp screw on the left side.
