Not to disrupt the thread of gorgeous photos - and I read the posts suggesting the Leitax mount and Vello tripod collar -
Is there any reason the standard tripod mount on the Metabones adapter doesn't work well enough?
Is it more a matter of balance on the tripod, with a collar-mounted adapter (having the extended foot)?
I've got one of these inbound and would like to be reasonably prepared.
TIA
Extended fully at 300mm the lens is long, more pressure fall on the mount than I would be comfortable with - even though it would be the adapter mount rather than the camera. Probably ok at 100mm.

Thanks for the response. What I don't understand is how the leitaxed adapter + tripod collar/foot mount differs in that regard.
Is it because the adapter is more securely attached to the lens instead of just coupling via a friction & lock mount?
Having performed this mod myself, I can say the leitaxed adapter seems a lot more secure as there is no play like there is with the metabones, etc. Also, the foot of the tripod collar sits more forward, helping balance everything better. Another benefit is that it will now have its own dedicated adapter, freeing up the metabones for other lenses...
Must get extension tube set again .. unfortunately I sold them along with my other Contax lens

I've read through the archive thread and this and l'm a hair short of getting one of these to add to my traveling kit. I've just started to MF not too long ago and was wondering how realistic/difficult is it to MF the 100-300 handheld?
I currently travel with a 20, 40, 90, and I intend to replace the faster 90 as I find it a little too restrictive in FL.
Main hesitation is that this will become the largest/heaviest item in the bag, and my only current alternative is to actually adapt a Nikon 70-200 f/4(which I already own) I've done some quick numbers and the nik with adapter should come up to be about the same weight as the 100-300 with adapter, but it will be a good 5cm shorter and 7mm less in girth.
