Extraordinary images Sebboh, Cavewalker, Krosavcheg and Luka!!!
It is refreshing to see images, that have an almost paint like rendering, sharp and amazing colours. It is not a zeiss look, as it is like a completely different paint brush, creating stunning shots.

Thank you very much for your kind words - Bifurcator, Paul, Charles...
In all this I completely forgot to comment on Cavewalker's peach shot, which is fantastic. Needless to say the MD 50 is on my list now..

Here are few more from post-dental walkabout:

thanks charles, and more beautiful shots krosavcheg!

i haven't really been able to shoot much lately, but here's some of the dregs from the last time i was out with my bargain 50mm f/1.7:

and an old shot from my first day with the 50mm f/1.2, i need to go back through my archives and see if there are any gems i missed taken with that lens.

Sebboh: Great shots! They all differ a lot in composition and tones, so it is difficult to chose the favourite! BW of a bench is fantastic! Just as the first shot of the fence edge.

Those 50s produce fantastic results. I can't believe how cheap they are....

Very nice use of the 50/1.7. They are good lenses (both 55mm and 49mm filter thread versions) and are highly regarded among minolta users, myself included.

Thank you, Luka!
It is hard to put down, eh?.. Only now I understand Paul's previous posts..

Very swedish colours in first two! Accidentally, those two are my favourites! There is a ghost of a flower spiralling around on the first one. Insane!!

i had heard so many wonderful things about these lenses from minolta users that i had hope my md 50/1.7 might be sharper at 1.7 then my md 50/1.2 was at f/2. sadly that doesn't appear to be the case for this copy (though it is still a good performer). at the price they go for i might try a few more of different vintages to try and get the sharpest one. in any event, i'm still happy because this lens allows me to get the rokkor wide open bokeh at a medium fast aperture - i've always been annoyed by the hexagons of the later minolta lenses when stopped down just a bit (my last 50/1.2 shot). i am however, a fan of rokkors' wide open rendering and the fact that it seems to be consistant across all the rokkors i've tried. the best word i can think of to describe the wide open bokeh of rokkor's would be "bubbly." anyway here are a few shots from today (all wide open):

Sebboh: Great colours, and the sharpness of the detail in 2nd shot is incredible (the spider's web with a tiny drop). Rokkor's bokeh rendition is fantastically pleasant. Hard to stop looking at the photos.
I wasn't aware of the copy variation of older lenses..
Btw, is your copy AF chipped? I had to re-adjust diopter again since I constantly front focused, but it's still a challenge for my 20D.....

No more shots from me for few days - pouring down atm..so keep posting...

i haven't heard anything in particular about copy variation in rokkors, but every manufacturer has some degree of copy variation. there is also the variation in what a given 20-50 year old lens has been through. i've also heard a number of people make claims that different versions of lenses were better (MC vs MD or MD 55mm filter vs MD 49mm filter).

i don't have an AF chip. i don't shoot canon, i'm currently using a sony NEX so all my shots are focused on magnified liveview. i haven't shot on a tripod or in good light with it yet though.
