Lots of great shots here (as usual). This one is superb, I've also noticed the massive increase in contrast/sharpness one step down (looking through the lens the difference is quite amazing how much light is covered). Great shot and great PP sebboh.

Just tried, did not realize you could stop in between but that's very true.

Here are two shots posted in the alt-thread, second is ISO3200 (5D2)

You can also disassemble the rear of the lens, remove the aperture ring, grind or file a new notch somewhere between 1.2 and 2, then re-install the ring and reassemble.

Voila! f1.5 (or something like that) which gives the best of both worlds between f1.2 and f2 on the Rokkor 58/1.2

+1

there is barely room for two new notches in between f/1.2 and f/2 if you can be precise.

it's always been a pet peeve of mine about rokkor lenses that there no stop between wide open and the next full stop while everything else is in half stops.

it's the ? at the end of that comment that scares me - I make a very angry guinea pig. But I'd sure love to have an f/1.4 and an f/1.8 stop on my lens.

i'm sure it can be done on the zuiko as well, it's just a question of how difficult it is (i have no idea). i've never removed the aperture ring on an OM lens since they're on the front of the lens and thus don't need to be removed for cleaning or mount swaps.

oh, just a reminder to anybody doing this to a rokkor – don't lose that ball bearing when you take off the aperture ring!

Thanks Derek. I think I will not try it. If I send it to John at Zuiko.com, I'll ask him to mod it for me. It would be really useful. Gonna have to think about that one.

Or I can just buy a Rokkor instead. The Rokkor Kool-Aid is kind of getting to me. I want one!

Tip: Do not make the notch too deep and/or too wide, otherwise the ball bearing will tend to get stuck in the notch and possibly lock up. Even a narrow, shallow notch will be easy enough to feel and will provide plenty of resistance to hold the blades at that aperture. Less is more. A bit of grease on the ball is a good idea, too.

Perhaps I will photodocument the process and put it up on a web page, then stick a link to it in the Alt FAQ thread. It will work with most lenses in basically the same way (OMs being one of the exceptions, for sure).
