Yes, the space between wide open and the f2 notch is relatively large. It is more than a full stop, after all.

hi,

the 55/1.7 looks good. Once i had that lens, but i "broke it" during filing down the rear-part

however, on 4/3 it was great - and it is cheap: a good lens ! once i will try again...

nice pictures this week !

best, L.

Those are very NICE Jim! Cannot decide if #2 or #4 are on top but I am leaning for #2...

Thanks for inspiration, need to take my newly refurbished lens for a ride to see if I can find anything :-)

Nice shots Jim, yes pg 3 is a no-no, should be pinned!

I do know some manufactures use 2 detent balls offset and alternate to get closer spacings. My FD 50/1.4 as an example.

I was thinking of getting another Rokkor normal for my NEX(other than the 58/1.2)
so many choices... which would be a good complement to my baby?
MC Macro Rokkor-QF 50/3.5
MC Rokkor-PF 55/1.7
MC Rokkor-PF 55/1.9
MC Rokkor-PF 58/1.4

Minolta 58mm f1.2: first one wide open, the second one probably at f2.0.

for the NEX my vote is would be the MC PF 55/1.7 or MC PG 50/1.4. the 55/1.7 is lower contrast with smoother bokeh wide open but never gets as sharp. the 50/1.4 is a very similar draw to the 58/1.2 but sharper and higher contrast. the 50/1.4 is a much better landscape lens than the 55/1.7 if that matters to you. i don't care for the 58/1.4 on the NEX that much. the bokeh is a little to squirrelly and the color/contrast/sharpness isn't that great. i actually find it to be pretty nice on film though (i think visible grain helps it's look). no experience with the 55/1.9 or the macro.

Quick question, does your 58 1.2 clear the 5D2 (Jim did my conversion and filed down a bit)? I'm about to move from my 1d3 => and 5d2 to the holy grail.

My 1DIII hit my MC PG till I removed some of the retaining ring, my friends 5D still hit it. I stopped filing when it cleared my 1DIII, and I didn't really want to remove any more because the spanner slot was starting to disappear.

The mirror will actually leave some marks on the rear retainer ring where it hits. Sounds bad but I've seen no marks on the mirror itself yet :-)

Anyway, I have a photo of a grinded ring which should give you an idea how to do it. I'll take a look when I come home to see if I find it. Have not done it myself though, but I imagine it will no only solve the mirror-hit but also infinity-focusing. Mine b a r e l y focus at infinity, and it seem that this part of the ring is the culprit both for the mirror-hits and that.

Maybe someone else can confirm?

The issue: the mirror's bottom edge catches on the retaining ring for the rear element.
if the mirror catches on the return you get a partial image in the viewfinder(focus closer to free the mirror), if the mirror catches on the up swing, you will get a error message(focus closer and reboot the camera to shoot again)
This is the reason for shaving the mirror, it only happens @ or near infinity.
It could be good to go, good luck.
