Thank you very much for the nice comments everyone!

This thread is getting even better and better. Such a high level of photography is almost intimidating

Zhangyue, great dramatic shots. They look like some volcano shots in Iceland

Katie, very nice posing, they look like pro models! The light is perfect!

Charlie, I really like the 2nd shot compositionwise and story telling.

Pingflood, nice rainbow shot. Perhaps a bit wider would add more interest.

Ron, congratulations for the good news, finally! Glad Leica seems to have done a perfect job.

Burningheart, very nice aftermath pictures!

Gary, love that graffiti shot!

Sit around and bitch about how cold the weather is..... I'm only kidding. This weather is a bit unusual but does happen once and a while. It is all changing though as today is clear and sunny (but still cold, -6C). I do love winter but wish it was three months shorter....

Shovel the snow off our sidewalks. .

As Gary said this is unusual and the earliest since records were kept for September which started back in 1968. Normally we don't get the wet heavy watery snow as Alberta is classified as a semi-arid climate although we get cold air in winter and snow the humidity is much lower than places like Vancouver and Toronto. Normally the snow is more dry and fluffy.

As a kid I lived in Vancouver and 0C was unbearable, yet in Alberta minus 6 to minus 20 I would think nothing of going out running or photographing. I would be out running today training for my 1/2 marathon but since I train in Fish Creek Park and it is closed because of yesterday's storm I will have to wait until tomorrow.

As some joke we are a 3 season place. Spring, Autumn and Winter. If lucky we get a week of summer. Photographically we have a beautiful place to photograph. Mountains, foothills, badlands, you name it all within a 2 hour drive. We can sure enjoy outdoor pursuits yearround here.

One bright spot from yesterday there will be less leaves to rake up. As the leaves start to fall this time of year.

Funny, southern Ontario is also a 3 season province: summer, fall and winter. If they are lucky, they get 1 week of spring

zhangyue - The bathing of golden rays in the 1st shot is what early morning is all about. Seeing the first glimpses of light before the sun peaks it's head over the horizon. Just beautiful I feel like I am out hiking in a nice summer morning.

Trying to get back into the things of "just shooting". M8 + Summicron 40. No consistency in processing as you can see, but hey..

Got a hood and 5.5-39 adapter from "Heavystar" today. Nice quality for the money, so I now have the 40 + adapter + UV/IR + hood. Does not vignette on the 1.33x crop, not sure how it would fare on an M9 though. The Summicron is definitely what I wanted "drawing" wise, and the sharpness is fantastic if that's your thing too.

This one's seen better days.

Ping - I like the image with your daughter's (I am assuming your two daughters are in these shots) reaching up in the I found the apple tree. The expressiveness is terrific. ALl the shots are well composed.

Gary - Okay those with Mononchromes can't vote (I didn't forget that, then those that can take lovely color shots shouldn't be allowed to convert to black and white) Just kidding of course. Very nice images. I am torn between the 1st and 4th as my favorites. The 1st great composition and also greys. The 4th I think you captured a great shot that has many differing highlights, first the young lady on the phone, actually seeing a phone not a cell is interesting, 2nd the fellow walking towards you I can tell he is glancing at the young lady and then 3rd the rest two groups of people walking away from the scene, it is a real good street shot. Just torn which I like best and both look terrific in black and white great job.

Thanks! The little one is actually a boy who steadfastly refuses to get his hair cut, though at some point we'll just have to do it... usually mistaken for a girl!

Really loving the M8, both shooting with and the results. The raw files need virtually nothing to look great, much different from e.g. my X100 or Canon gear. If they'd just addressed the Magic 8-ball white balance on the Leica it would be pretty much hands off entirely.

I am excited today as one of my courses the instructor informed us that for assignments digital only we can submit upto 3 shots on his theme for the assignment and we are welcome to also submit black and white. We are not limited to color only submissions. I will get to use the Monochrom for this course.

Great news Burningheart!

Ping - isn't it funny how people confuse boys for girls? My boys always had longish hair, too ... and even when they didn't, they are so PRETTY that they were ALWAYS mistaken for girls.

Yes, this thread is quite now. I have nothing so here is a random selection from the archives, a shot with the 50 Lux in a bakery in Vienna.

Decisive Moment:

L1020277 by unoh7, ZM35/2 Biogon f/4

This one special for Edward, came out of the camera raw just like this:

L1020285 by unoh7, ZM35/2 Biogon f/3.4

The low, late light had both the M9 and A7 WB swingling wildy in auto mode

L1020299-2 by unoh7, ZM35/2 f/2.4

Secret tactic: I give them the A7, here with CV75/2.5 (Stellar on A7), they forget about me except as Siri for Sony, show em the mag and the focus ring, and how to review. I get candids, and they shoot a bunch too
