To be honest, I am not very comfortable with the direction Leica has been taking recently.
The M system is for traditionalists and I think they should keep it this way.
They can make a new system for progressive tech oriented people, which currently is the T and the system may expand in the future to include FF bodies and lenses.
I confess for being a dinosaur but the M system is also a dinosaur dating back to 1954 and that's the whole point
I really like the fact that Leica is embracing the electronic developments. If they do not, they will be left behind. I really do not like Sony's implementation of menu's and buttons, but I like what I see the direction with the Leica T. I have no intention of getting a "T", as I have the A7r, as prefer the FF look and IQ.
I would like to see the latest M, embrace fast electronics and EVF implementation when needed. The M240 processing speeds have improved, but still slows down considerably with high ISO shots, and can lock up when using the EVF. Also I would like the see the ability for local Leica repair centers to be able to calibrate the RF mechanisms, which only take 3 day turn around. The added precision is great, but it must be serviceable and practical.
I could not go back to the M9, purely for the sake of not having a backup for the RF focusing, as I need the LV/EVF, when the calibration is not quite correct, or problematic lenses with focus shifts.
The problem with the M240's is that the RF re-calibration is about 2 to 3 months, lenses have been about 3 months which is not acceptable either. I feel the electronic developments do need to evolve and be up to date, but also Leica need to get their turn around of repairs within an acceptable time frame.
I find I need the A7r's as a backup to my M240's, which seems crazy, but it works! I personally think we have too many excellent choices now
