Guys, somehow my M240 got knocked out of alignment. And after fighting with them over my 50APO that doesn't seem like it'll ever come back.. I dare not send my M240 in for realignment.
The two lenses that are greatly effected are the 50 Noctilux 0.95 and the 75 APO. The other lenses are unaffected, which is I guess normal for f/2 and f/3.4 medium and wide angles, but oddly enough the 50Lux-asph is acting better from 1.4 onwards, focusing is spot ON... sigh, so I don't know what's going on (well I do, but I have no idea how it fell out of alignment, as I've only had the Noctilux on since the 50APO left for Germany a month ago, and I store the lens in a constant state of minimum focus which is the easiest on the mechanism).
And yes, I did testing using a tripod and live view and optical focusing and live view testing and back and forth until my eyes burned.. I used a pin with a ball on the end of it (actually the test images are pretty cool).
Anyway, kinda bummed out since I'm leaving for Japan in a weeks time, and I have no 50APO and now my camera is acting wonky (first world problems, I know, but still.) ...Show more →
Adam, sorry to hear you're having more problems. I guess it depends where in Japan you're heading, but IIRC, the Leica store in Ginza, Tokyo has on-site tech? Might be worth inquiring with them ahead of time whether this is something they can address on-site during your visit, or whether indeed it's necessary to send back to Germany...
Great images everyone... been lurking.
Phil: you're making a compelling visual argument for the 50/1 as a wedding lens.
Gary: I can spot the 21 SEM without needing to read the captions. Great landscapes!
Gary, amazing landscape!
Rocky, great images from your trip!!!
Paul, very nice! Amazing lens
Ron, thank you very much for your great effort in testing the Leica lenses with the A7/M9 comparisons!

Are there any 21mm Super Elmar users that have also used the ZF/ZE Zeiss 21mm Distagon?
How would you compare the two?
Zf.2 21mm has been my favorite lens, so I am intrigued by 21mm SEM.
I have had the ZE 21 Distagon with the 5DII, and it is an amazing lens. Very high micro contrast with quite a funky bokeh. Excellent landscape lens.
The 21 SEM has much better roll off and excellent bokeh too. With the M240, I would definitely prefer the 21 SEM, for image rendering, roll off and bokeh. The sharpness of the 21 SEM is also amazing with the M240. I feel the best advantage is the size and weight of the lens makes it for a very unobtrusive setup
How are you liking the 21SEM Charles? I'm looking to add a 21mm and at the moment I'm steering towards the 2.8 ZM because of the MFD and presumably better perspective control.

The 21 SEM is an amazing lens! It is relatively cost effective, and the lens works great. For traveling it is very light, and you don't even notice the lens. Yes I understand the MFD, may not suit, and with the respect to perspective control, a lot of this is easily adjusted in Lr For me, I purchased the lens, second hand, and it was very cost effective, as I had no intention of buying a 21, as I already have the 24 Lux. I did not realize how much I would use the 21 SEM, until my last trip to Bali.
I also owned the ZF21 for my D700 and it was my favorite landscape lens by far. It has some mild mustache distortion but I very rarely even noticed it. I thought it would be near impossible to find similar performance in an M mount lens until I bought the 21SEM. My unbiased opinion is that the 21SEM is perhaps one of the all time best performing wide angle lenses available in any mount. I feel it produces slightly sharper files (compared to ZF21) which look natural without being overly constrasty. Images are sharp to the corners right from wide open onwards. Very flare resistant, small, and zero distortion whatsoever. It is almost always in my bag when I go travelling and I tend to use it far more than I thought I would. Out of all the Leica lenses I own, the 21SEM I could not live without.
You guys are making it hard for me to not want the 21 SEM . I'm just a bit bummed about the 0.7m MFD, I know it sounds trivial but that extra 20cm really makes a big difference in versatility for me.
Thanks Charles and Gary for sharing your observations/experiences with 21SEM. I think I will have to give it a try. Did you consider 18 SEM and why did you pick 21?

Based on your output, I certainly agree, those banff shots are breath taking.
Great shots! Everyone.
I haven't post much here recently.
Here are two from last weekend from Disney.
