Thanks Charles, Michael!
Charles, don't look at my zenfolio site, its a mess and full of pictures I rather not show
Michael, I'm not sure what I'm going to do, I need to be convinced that the MM is worth keeping as its rather pricey. I have no qualms buying good lenses as they hold their value much better, but cameras will eventually depreciate and leave a hole in my pocket. My plan is to keep the M9 for color and B&W (low ISO) and use the MM for purely B&W days and when the light is low. I think if you shoot the M9 at close to base ISO say 160-400, the files are great and I agree, depending on the type of photography you do, you won't need the MM. I may be wrong but I think probably 80 to 90% of people who will buy the the MM are hobbyist (myself included) or very established B&W pros who can see the benefits. I simply cannot see many regular working photographers who can afford this camera which is a big pity.
As to what I'm seeing so far, I don't really like the way the MM responds to blown highlights, very abrupt cut off, not gentle and very unlike B&W film. Once its gone, its gone and I need to be very careful with exposure and decide how certain loss of highlight details will affect the overall picture. If you look at many examples on Flickr or elsewhere so far, you will see many pictures with blown highlights and it simply kills the picture, at least for me. The cool thing is the RAW histogram has divisions into 10 zones, pretty cool. Just as I had to adapt when moving from the M8 to M9 metering, I think its a matter of having to adapt to the MM. The other negative on the monochrome sensor is that I have to go back to shooting with B&W filters, which can be a nice nostalgic experience but can also be a chore keeping various filters, different sizes, more things to clean, etc.
I'll let you all know how I feel in a few weeks when I have more time for photography.
Meanwhile, looking back at the past few pages,
Paul, I like the picture of the girl in the park shot with the 28Cron, beautiful.
Bruno, really nice deep B&W tones to those shots, nice!
Luka, nice to see you back. Excellent shots as always! Love that first industrial shot with hints of yellow on p557. The X1 still looks very capable. Not upgrading to the X2?
Charles, ditto with you Bangkok Nocti series, excellent work as always!
Doug, two very nice B&W shots a few pages back with the 90 Summarit.
Seekuh, that's an excellent vacation shot! Congrats on being shortlisted!
deang001, nice set from Dubai.
Michael, love the colors from your film set. The red line composition is excellent! Were these Costco scans?
