Nate, another very cool image! Looks like an awesome environment.

Ron, I haven't had time to shoot much but will give the 90AA a try when time permits. This lens is definitely very suitable for technical shots and stills where the long focus throw helps you to be more precise with focusing wide open whereas the 90Summarit is more suitable for moving subjects, in my opinion. I tried taking pics of moving kids with the 90AA up close and it is very difficult to focus, by the time I turn the focus ring, the kids have disappeared. I haven't tried the Zeiss but your sample shot looks good. Its probably me, but for the price of a new 85 Sonnar, I probably would stretch for a 90AA, coded, good resale value, etc. I recall you had the ZM 85/4? How was that lens? BTW, those editorial shots look great. Hard to pick a favorite. Good use of the 21 FL!

Joe, cool image! Either there's an alien presence or it's a biblical reference.... Last supper perhaps? This is one of those happy accidents with a rangefinder because you can't see it before hand.
I didn't try any moving subjects with the 85 Sonnar, (other than the small girl with the soccer ball, but that was far away) so it's quite possible it could be very difficult to focus as well. I think part of the appeal of the Sonnar is that if it really is being made again by Zeiss, and if the German store advertising this is correct with their pricing, it will cost around $3000 USD, which is slightly less than what I remember was the price when it was still available, and $1k less than the 90AA... Still, I want to try the 90AA to see for myself...
Wow, thanks Hilmar! To answer your questions:

Ron, just some more remarks on your great photos:
Number 1) Was it taken with fill flash or is it just available light). I like your way of processing. Blacks are blacks and everything is very sharp and crisp. Did you edit a lot in PP?
Did you stage the right kid?
It's available light with the 21 Lux wide open, so it vignettes a fair amount, which might give the look of some flash because the edges are already quite dark. Not too much editing on all of these, just some curves adjustments to tweak the contrast a bit and white balance. The kid on the right is the reason I took this photo. She was in her own world playing with the stick, while the other kids were watching me and their parents. I didn't put them on the bench, the coach did to get ready for the game... And I find the goalie's face is quite funny... he looks kind of like a tough kid, big and brutish compared to the others. He's the same kid in the 7th photo, surrounded by the other boys with hotdogs.
No. 2) Beautiful composition. Like that the kids are in the lower part and that there is a lot of the environment visible.
Thanks, that's what I like too, and how intensely they're watching the end of another game on the ice. In higher rez, there's a really nice feel of separation of the two boys from the background.
No. 3) A perfect photo. Like the way the guy is holding the winner's cup.
Thanks, that's also what drew me to this scene. He was holding it for his wife, who won it as volunteer of the year...
No. 4) Looks like staged (just one kid looking into the camera). Excellent.
I didn't tell him to look. Like most kids, when they see someone with a camera, they're curious and watch. If it was just the backs of the kids then the image would be lacking a clear focal point.
This brings up an interesting observation: parents train their kids to stop and look at the camera. I can't count how many times that day parents would tell their kids to stop what they're doing and look at me so I can get a photo. Of course, this is exactly the opposite of what I want, which is to ignore me. I can say with some confidence that I've trained my friends' kids to not stop and pose.
No. 5) Excellent composition and so smooth.
No. 6) Feel as if I were part of the action.
No. 7) Hockey is very rewarding. Seems as if they burned many calories. ;-))
No. 8) Action shot. You must have been quick with focusing. Stunning shot.
I got lucky here. Zone focused around f/2.8 and panned it correctly as he moved with the trophy.
No. 9) Like the composition again. Great, great work.
This one didn't work out as well as I had hoped... first of all the one parent went behind the trophies but I was hoping at least a couple more kids would come at the same time, but instead one of the coaches took most of the trophies back.
