Doug - I'd be interested in seeing more shots with the 50/1.1.
Lot of people say it is not sharp wide open. Is this really the case, or is the DOF just very tiny?
at f5.7, this image pretty well dispels any sharpness myth about the lens I guess. It's not a Leica ASPH, but for what I paid for it, it's not a bad value. I did buy it new. I know it was less than a grand, but I Cannot remember exact price.
It is true at lower aperatures, it's a little more difficult to use, and results can be sporadic perhaps. But stop it down, and it becomes a pretty solid 50mm. Fun to play with 1.1, without spending NOCT money.
Martin, very nice set with the 28 Cron Love the compositions.
LL, thanks, I think Yes, great to have a lot of very photogenic people around Nice shot with the Nocti!
Doug, lighting makes all the difference Nice shots with the CV 50/1.1. I had it for 6 months, and found too heavy, and difficult to nail the focus at different apertures and distances. Due to the design of the optics, the DOF is surprisingly large for a f/1.1 lens. This was confirmed by a lab in Melbourne. Under the right lighting the CV 50/1.1 works magic though.
Thanks Charles, well, it lets me at least play with the focal length, and get the occasional shot. but I would hardly call it my go to lens. I would say what you are saying is absolutely correct. The plane of focus here even, seems a little strange, with OOF areas on left, but clear focus at top and right side. It's almost as if it were tilted and shifted, but then it was handheld, it was at an angle,so that could explain what occurred.

I thought the same thing about the image of the apples. The depth seems very, very strange... it's not bad, but not something I've been able to create without a t/s lens. I wonder if you would be able to recreate the effect?

I saw that you're from Madison and I thought the store might be some where in the US. I'm six weeks into a supposed 6 month wait for a 50 Cron.
Yeah but I forgot to change my current address. I am in an exchange program right now in Paris but if you have the chance you should visit France and Lille, nice city and the Leica store is particularly nice
Charles, that third 75mm Summilux shot is gorgeous, the subject has lots of character. It's a pity about the highlights in the shirt, but perfection is elusive. He's wearing this sort of mondern-yet-retro ensemble in a way.
It's probably lazy and also shorting oneself a bit, to talk about work by frame of reference to another's imagery, but here is a sort of Anton Corbijn-in-the-eighties image.
It's taken with a Nokton 40mm f/1.4 (single coat) and M9.
