Luka, great shots! Love the different style and compositions. Very unique IMO I really like the shots with the 75 Cron AA
Ron, thank you!!! Great to see you back on board. Excellent set of shots! You have a great eye for compositions!!
Yes, I have both the 75 Lux and Cron AA Yes I do prefer the 75 Lux as it really is a unique lens. Focusing with the 75 Lux, with long throw, makes it easy to get accurate focus even at f/1.4. I also like the frame lines for the 75 over the 90, as I enjoy composing shots with some peripheral view, but not the frame lines which seem too small with the 90 IMO. Also the other day, when I do the portrait shoot, out of 120 shots, with the 50 and 75 Lux all at f/1.4, there was only one shot OOF, and that was my mistake as I took the shot prematurely. With my 5DII 50/85L, I as lucky to get 80%.
Thanks Charles, yes I agree, a long focusing throw is very useful with fast lenses. This is also the case with the CV35 f/1.2, which I find quite easy to focus. In comparison, the 90 Summarit is more fiddly.
Speaking of which... the 90 Summarit:
I'm using this lens a lot more than I thought I would. I'd kind of told myself that my M cutoff would be 50mm for most purposes and use the Canon with 70-200 for longer, but I'm finding that 90mm is long enough most of the time, at least for what I'm photographing with the M9.
Rally like that first one Ron. I agree with you about the nex so far. It's a VERY slow process of fiddling so far, but I haven't customized enough. It could be the contax adaptor vs real focus ring. I have a feeling a m mount lens would be easier, or at least faster I'm not sure I'll end up keeping it...But it deserves more time. One positive is hand holding at low shutter speeds is ridiculously easy.
I appreciate your shots with the cv1.2. I read some reviews with some saying it rivaled the lux..your shots seem convincing, on both systems.

Having both, how much to you use each? Lately I have been seeing mostly (all?) 75 lux shots from you. Perhaps Leica's description of the lens is entirely appropriate:
first-rate documentary tool
Together with the Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH. wide-angle lens, the Leica Apo-Summicron-M 75 f/2 ASPH. offers the best and most elegant high-performance combination available today in 35 mm rangefinder photography.
I must say, I do see similarities in the 28 and 75, although the 28 as lot more personality. Given that I have a 28 cron coming, and don't plan on more than two more lenses, I think a 75 something and an 18 or 21 something are in order. I imagine that a new 75 Summilux ASPH is also on the way (but that will be way too expensive for me).

Hmmm... I've never heard of that.
Could be interesting to note for 5D users, I wonder if it's so with some 5DII cameras?
It was only an early batch of 5D's that was affected. There's no issue with newer 5D's and all 5DII's.
Luka, nice shots with the 75!
What I don't understand is why you don't sell it.
I know it's because it pleasantly surprises you from time to time, but when you are consistently unhappy with the results I just don't understand why someone still wants to keep it.
I don't want to use lenses that make me feel dissapointed most of the time.
its amazing how you can recover a photo taken with the M9... i thought i set the aperture to f2.0, since i had a few drinks already i did not notice i turned the aperture to f4 with the same shutter speed (manual mode). I cant remember being able to do this with my canon 1dIIn files

Ron, very nice shots! Even for the 90 you were not going to use I do have the NEX 5N too, and great IQ, but I still find the M9 so much easier to pick and grab shots without too much thinking.
Ash, 75 Lux 100% and 75 Cron AA 0%. Maybe time to sell!
Edwin, nice examples! Yes the amount of latitude for the M9 with under exposure is amazing.
Shot this evening at terminal 21 in Bangkok, a local tv crew doing an interview. 50 Lux
Amazing photo, Charles. Your photos taken with the Summilux 50 are wonderful. I own the Noctilux and think about replacing it by the Summilux 50. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks Seekuh! The 50 Lux Asph is a real work horse for me personally. The black version is light, quick and easy to focus. As much as I yearn for the 50 Nocti, I am very happy with the 50 Lux

Thanks Doug and h00ligan
Seekuh, yes I would love to have the Nocti, but it is unlikely I will buy it In essence I am selling my chrome version of the 50 Lux just because of the weight factor.
Ron great shots and good to see you back posting here. I always enjoy your geometric compositions

I've only said that I haven't got super sharp results from it. It doesn't have to be anything wrong with the lens since it seems to focus correctly at all distances and is almost equally sharp from middle to corner at f/2. I'd definitely not say there's any "issue" compared to any other lens I've had. The ZF 35/2 wasn't dead sharp at infinity either, no matter how much I stopped it down. But it was good enough.
It's rather simple, if it isn't super sharp, or as you put it: Still I can't find one single image at infinity that is really sharp, even at f/5.6.
then there's something really seriously wrong - something much more serious than the minor focus shift of a 35 Lux ASPH. You should not be getting sharp results, you should be getting ridiculously sharp results.

Same thinking here. Of course, I would love to keep my Noctilux. It isn't too heavy either. However, since I own the SX 24 and the SX 35 which are both fairly heavy lenses I prefer having a rather compact lens like the SX 50 instead of the NX50. Will have to contemplate the decision thoroughly though.
Lots of great shots guys! Today is day #1 of me without my beloved M8!
I've sent it in to DAG for adjustments and I already can't wait to have it back.
Charles, I could see those street portraits taken with the 50Lux ending up in a magazine about daily life in Bangkok. they're beautiful and very descriptive.

Still really struggling with the not-so-good low light capabilities of the M8, but occasionally it gives interesting results.
Makten, I can totally understand what you mean by this. I'm also a fairly new M8 user and I live in the east coast of Canada where it's now getting dark out at around 5pm and soon enough it'll be closer to 4. I'm actually searching for a better tripod because I've spent so much time using an old manfrotto my teacher gave me.
One thing that's been saving my life in regards to nighttime photos is the 35/1.2 II.
The difference from f1.2 to f2 can be really surprising. I think we're very much in the same sort of situation with our photo gear. I'm still struggling because I've got one foot in Nikon gear (D700 35/2, 50/1.2, 105/2.5) and one foot in with Leica (m8 w/grip, ZM 25/2.8, CV35/1.2II) I very much so want to be shooting Leica exclusively but getting rid of the rest of my Nikon gear does kinda scare me, especially because of the D700's ISO abilities. In all reality, it's the only reason why I'm keeping the camera at all.
Anyway, without my camera I plan to finally get around to editing some of the work I've been doing especially with the 35/1.2!

Brody, thanks) I hope you get your M8 back quick!
Fingers crossed! I've got a shoot going on in the first week of Dec. so I really hope it'll be back by then. Just took a look at your site, Charles. Top knotch stuff, especially the portraits. How do you like using zenfolio?
Thanks Brody Zenfolio is great in the respect, it is very easy to use, but I hope to soon host a separate page. I like to keep it simple though
Here are some of the other shots, taken from the portrait shoot the other day, with the 50 and 75 Lux I made sure with the lady that I could allow her photos to be shown.
