The 50 Summicron is a good lens. Definitely better than the Canon 50/1.4 type of lens if you are coming from that direction. That being said, while I appreciated it for it's relative consistency, it never really did much for me. I didn't regret selling it at all to fund my 50/1.4 purchase.
Thanks for the advice everyone - I truly appreciate it. The good thing is that most 50's are pretty good performers. I may have to try a few and see...
My intro to this epic thread with the very first image with my M9, fresh out of the box.
ZM50 Planar at f2:
Image is unsharpened and hosted at Photob*cket so the upload might not do it justice.
Summicron 28/2 at ISO 320 and f2:
From the first outing with the M9 and 50/2 planar, Af Chapman, opposite of Gamla Stan/Old Town, Stockholm, cropped with possible downscaling artefacts:
EDIT: will try and repost the panoramic image when I have read up on the image constraints on FM. How wide should I post it?
Still on the fence on that 28/2. I'm looking at the ZM 25 since I do need a slightly wider lens.
KL, great set of shots!!! Really nice to see the 35 Lux Asph is back in action too Love the colours and vibrance in these night shots.
Joe, excellent set. The first two shots are amazing
Licorisher, congrats on your new M9 Nice shots. I would try the 28 Cron for awhile before making a final judgement.
Tx Joe - your pics are awesome!
Tx Charles - your recommendation of Camera Clinic in Melbourne is very much appreciated! They are tops ! fixed the lens in 1/2 a day. I only had trouble with Aussie customs who taxed me, but I hear i can get a refund for what I paid.
Congrats licorisher! Hope to see more of your shots here.
BTW, I probably have a 50CronV3 and a 90 Summarit that I will let go soon. PM if anyone is interested. I'm also wanting to trade my 50Lux ASPH for a 50CronV5.
Priorities are changing. I'm thinking of getting a Epson 4900. Anyone knows where the best deals are? I missed the $1000 rebate which ended last month
Joe: why get rid of a 50 Cron V3 and a 50 ASPH for a 50 Cron V5? I had the last version of the 50 Cron for a while. My first RF lens. Bought it used for $500. It was a decent lens, but I never loved it like many people seem to. And it flares sometimes. The 50 ASPH is better in every way in my mind.
Thanks guys.. I use the 28 & 35 FL 90% of the time, 50mm is my tele and not used much, so its a waste to keep it. Only use 50 for some portraits and if you know me, I shoot f/8 all the time, hard to justify keeping a $3700 lens in the closet, plus its heavier than the 50Cron. I might just keep the 50CronV3 for now.. lets see. I need to start making some prints of my work which is the reason I'm looking at the Epson 4900.
Joe,
I use the Epson 3880, love it! I would guess the Ultrachrome HDR inks would have more tonal depth than the Ultrachrome K3 inks. Did not see any real life prints with this ink set. I've been happy with the K3 ink set so far, and zero issues with the 3880.

Thanks for the info Ajay! I' m new to inkjet printing but met up with some photographers this weekend and they both recommended the 4900. I've seen some rave reviews on the 3880 as well, maybe will look into that too.
Makes sense Joe. In that case I might keep the V3 you already have, or sell it an get the 50 Summarit, or the ZM 50/2, or a CV 50/1.5 or 2.5. I think my first choice would be the Summarit since it's tiny.
