Thanks guys!

Thanks Ryan for the additional images! I'm sold. My guess is I'll probably use it mostly at closer distances for people photos and like how it looks. At middle distances the background blur seems a bit nervous. I have a strong suspicion that my M9's rangefinder needs calibration and this lens will certainly show any issues very clearly. You mentioned you're using a 1.15x magnifier. Is that from Leica?

M9 & ZM35C. The first two and last one I accidentally left coded for the 21 non-ASPH and I think it actually works better than if coded for the 35 Summarit... I tend to set the 21 code manually because the M9 has a tendency not to read the code on the ZM21 in bright light... I guess the mount doesn't sit perfectly flush and light tight.

Thanks Gary! Ron, nice shots, definitely like the last best

Ron, I agree that the bokeh is best from mfd to about 12 ft. Past that it does get a little 'lively' and not as smooth as the Lux. I've said it before, but I prefer the bokeh out of this lens better at near distance than the Lux. The tree stump shot above i took with the 35 Nokton I also took with the 35 Lux last week and i trashed the pic. It was extremely soft in the areas outside dead center and ruined the image. I guess that is the dip you see in the 35 Lux's MTF once you get about 2/3 out of dead center. in this situation the Nokton rendering is much better IMO

More from the Nokton, all wide open unless otherwise noted

This is just to remind everyone what 0.7 normal MFD vs Nokton's 0.5 MFD does

Now, 0.5 MFD

0.5 mfd

This shot was at f/5.6 and I haven't adjusted a single thing, color/sharpness/clarity/etc

100%crop

Wide open, not sharpened

100%crop....not sharpened

This shot also straight out of camera shot wide open. How does the contrast look, I think quite well

It looks an awful lot like the Noctilux in it's rendering wide open to me although it looks like there's not much swirl in the version 2?

Ryan: really great shots and a very convincing demonstration of what the Nokton is capable of! I like the rendering a lot.

I have not done much photography in the past week, but I did take a couple of shots today during a visit to the Plitvice lakes national park. It was however very crowded so I didn't manage to take many shots as I was using a tripod. Here's one anyway:
Luka, the first one is like a dream, I love it!!
Good luck with the M9.

thanks, Ron, charles
and rsolti13 - congratulations for you sweet little model!! I like the high key most, like the ones on the stairs some time ago

Corporsant, nice shot with the Ektar. How do you find scanning Ektar 100? I am having trouble getting the right balance of skin tones/ color with Silverfast Ai and my Plustek 7600i.

I just got back some of my scans from NCPS. I must say I am impressed with the quality considering these are their budget scans. I made some quick comparisons with my Plustek 7600i and the NCPS budget scan holds up pretty well.

Thanks Joe. NCPS scans are great - though their prices just went up, so I expect I'll start only using them for E-6. The budget scans suffer from the same issues that Costco scans do - they are not meant for printing anything "big," but are excellent for the web.

Funny, that was a Costco scan, so they seem to manage it alright! Ironically I was just to upgrade my scanner at home to a Plustek 7600 - are you using Silverfast 8?

While I could postulate that that makes a difference, I find that Ektar 100 is one of the best scanning films I have used (up there with Portra 400), but I don't think it would EVER be my first choice for work where skin tones are critical. That film is more about fine grain than it is about color accuracy. The way I use it, it strongly desaturates reds, so I often times call it "Mad Men" film, for the effect they use on TV.

Here's another Ektar shot - she's getting the best light of the day on her face, otherwise she's look a little more pale:

NCPS raised their prices? When, I just sent them a huge order and prices were normal, but Index prints are no longer free.

I've also had no issue printing budget scans up to 10X15 and I expect they'd be just fine 20X30.

You know, I just looked and realized that I was looking at my own scan and not NCPS'. Mea culpa - print as big as you want!

Regarding pricing - not sure the exact date, but the price increase is pretty much splashed across their homepage. On my last order I noticed things were (a bit) more expensive.

Lovely shots all - Special mention to Luka for that gorgeous shot, Ron for the excellent street captures, Joe for the lovely film shots, Charles for the tree shots (reminds me of Treebeard from Lord of the Rings) and Ryan for the CV shots at wide open.

I've been using a friend's CV 35mm F1.7 (ltm mount) - it's not bad and small in size. Have not decided to buy it as yet. Reason for considering, my 35 Lux ASPH v1 had developed severe back focussing overnight but thankfully it's fixed already by Camera Clinic (thanks to Charles for the recommendation) who fixed it up in one morning.

Some shots with the CV 35mm F1.7 (limited edition and in chrome) - these are processed the way i would for my regular shots:

Voighlander has landed ::: Sleepy afternoon (through the window)

Early does it ::: Neighbourhood walkabout

Take 5 ::: Old neighbourhoods

Cheers all

So I've just looked at my last bill, it seemed a bit high. Sure enough I was charged an extra $80 on my last order. What a bunch to the nuts. No heads up from them either. I'll be sending them a nice little note.

Sadly, since I was busy having a good time with my 4-year-old daughter, this is the first trip since I started shooting where I didn't bring a film camera:

Wonderful pictures in the past few pages..

Not much time for photography these days. Made a quick trip to the Eastern Sierra / Yosemite and Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest over the Labor Day weekend.

M9 + 28 Cron:

1. Somewhere east of Tenaya lake on Hwy 120 through Yosemite Nat'l Park.

2. Bristlecone Pine Trees, White Mountains.

Both these trees are estimated to be ~2400 years old. Bristlecone pines are the oldest living trees on the planet.

Thanks Ron, Charles, Ryan & KL

Dierk, love those portraits with the 75Cron. Really like #3 a lot.
Luka, great shot! Enjoy your holidays and good to know that your M9 still works fine.
Ron, more excellent shots from you. #2 & 5 are my favorites from the first set. #3 on the second set is superb! Can't wait to see you post some pics with the 35/1.2 when it arrives.
Ryan, excellent shots with the CV 35/1.2! Rendering is also very nice. On some of those shots posted, I can easily mistaken it as a 35Lux ASPH. The sharpness of the lens reminds me of the CV 50/1.5.
LL, very nice vacation shots. Really like #2 & 3!
Corposant! Nice shot with the 50CronV5. Thanks for sharing the info on the Ektar. I kind of agree with you, Ektar seems to be great for fine art of life style shots (Town & Country, etc) but not the best for skin tones.
KL, excellent set with the CV 35. Love the vibrant colors and pp, especially on #3 & 4.
Nate, another nice set, I especially like the last shot! Great reportage style and framing!
Ajay, really nice shot of the old tree!

------
We stayed at this lovely B&B located at Prospect Harbor while we were visiting the Schoadic Peninsular in Maine. Pics are a combination of Ektar 100 & M9 with 28Cron, 35Lux ASPH & 50Lux ASPH. The main building dates back to 1860s and was once a Captain's cabin. We stayed on the adjacent farmhouse built in the 1820s.

KL, thanks Really nice set with the CV 35/1.7. Excellent lighting and PP'ing too. Last shot is my favourite
Ryan, very nice series with the CV 35/1.2. Beautiful shots of your daughter!! The lens is a keeper! It would seem much sharper than 50/1.1 Nokton wide open, and having the MFD of 0.5m is a real bonus.
Ron, great street abstract street captures! Very nice compositions in term of colours too
LL, nice set and great lighting.
Najibs, nice shot from the shot!
Corposant, love the film tonality. Nice shot.
Nate, excellent street shots! Very nice PP'ing with the difficult night lighting.
Ajay, love the shots of the 2400 year old tree!!
Joe, very nice set! Great PP'ing, colours and atmosphere to the shots.
