Thanks Joakim, Luka
Armanius, nice portraits and shots posted past week with the CV lenses. Welcome to the thread
Joakim, nice "doors" series with the 50Lux. The 1st one is my favorite although the 3rd one screams 50Lux ASPH
Luka, I like the yellow, red, black pic of your construction set a few pages back. A new German flag perhaps?
Nate, nice set from NYC, like the #1 & 3rd shot best! How do you like the M9 so far?
Charles, nice continuation of your Bangkok series with the 50Lux, 35LuxII and 28Cron! Love the colors and pp. The portraits are always wonderful to look at.
Heinz, nice reflection set. My favorite is the picture with the red chairs, really nice reflections, colors and shadows.
Ryan, nice set with the 50 Planar. Has the Zeiss "pop", especially on the bench shot
Gregory, nice "varied" set as always. Love this last set with the varied expressions on the faces (and finger), very nice!! I think if you stay on this thread long enough, we can probably tell each others' personalities by the shots we take. No escaping!
Shaun, nice shot with the ZM21. Did you add this lens to your kit recently?
Paul, nice set with the CV15.
Ron, love the colors with that bomber shot! The angle gives me an impression that you were actually strapped to the wings taking that shot .

You have to differentiate between quality and quality. Leica lenses and cameras are built like tanks.. tanks that have been assembled by moderately talented monkeys. The optical design and the materials used are all first rate but the assembly is definitely not.
This is not unique to Leica. Anything that's handmade with such precision comes at a cost. If we want a Leica M system with less "problems", Leica would have to invest in new machinery and add more man hours to produce the products, but would we pay $25,000 for a M9 or $35,000 for a 50Lux ASPH so that Leica can invest in better QC or equipment? Compare a basic Patek Phillipe watch with their simplest movement, you still have to wind it everyday and its not as accurate as a quartz Seiko, but it still cost more than a Leica M9 plus a few lenses. I personally have a "famous" Swiss watch which has its winding mechanism fail after less than 10 years....

......A minute ago I was very tempted to just throw out the 5DII and lenses and just go with the M9 & M6.. but then I remembered that I can't go without a backup camera... I mean what if I bump it into something and knock the rangefinder out of alignment. That would be a disaster. So I have to have backup. And thus backup lenses - the three heavy Zeiss ZE primes. And then adding a 70-200, although big and heavy, doesn't change things much..
I think Charles perhaps got the right idea to have a second M9 for backup...
+1 on a backup M9.. and don't worry, there are many M9s in stock in the USA right now if you decide to leave the 5D kit in the truck Have a safe trip!
