Thanks Charles I'm somewhat relieved that the M9-P was not a better camera technically but just cosmetics.. my wallet needs a rest The silver chrome looks gorgeous though.

------
90 Summarit. I haven't really had a chance to use this lens since I bought it. There is slight front focusing at f/2.5 to f/2.8, just like my 90 Tele-E at f/2.8. Stopped down to f/4 or higher, focus is spot on. Don't know if its the lens design or calibration. It renders like the 50Cron or 90CronV3. Overall, this lens seems to be decent.

Joe, very nice shots!!! Great lens Maybe the RF calibration is marginally off, and is apparent when the lenses are wide open.

Thank you for the comments, Ryan, Charles and Joe!

Joe, yes, I think it is a very good lens, regardless of the cheap price. And it matches film for sure. For digital I don't know as I don't have a M8/9. It makes me want to try a Lux 50 even more though...

Shaun, very nice shot of the sofa.

Ryan, the image with the street lamps and the church in the background is magical.

Joe, I really like the airport capture, the position of the people is like on a stage.

Thanks Joe - really nice airport image. The blue and green accents are a nice touch but the positioning of the people is stellar and quite subtle!

Re: Summarit. I wonder if it has a bit of focus shift? Easy way to figure that out would be a test sequence on a tripod. My CV75 f/1.8 definitely exhibits shift. It's similar to what you've stated, that by about f/4 the RF is accurate, otherwise I get front focusing with it at wider apertures. Not sure if CV 'tuned' it this way. But I also notice front focusing with my Planar and even the ZM35C wide open at distances.... so I suspect it's partly my camera.

Yes, who would have thought?

I have however never been wholly sold on my ZM lenses. The ZM18 & ZM25 are excellent lenses but in focal lengths that I'm not entirely comfortable with. The funny thing is that I set up myself for that situation - I deliberately chose focal lengths that did not overlap my 5DII lenses, not suspecting that the M9 would completely take over the role as my primary camera. As for the rest... well, the raison d'être for the 50 Sonnar vanished when I got the 50 Lux ASPH. So it's only the 35/2 Biogon
...Show more

I am in a very similar situation. I am seriously thinking about the new 21. The old one was good, even very good, but had soft corners wide open, and so I was never completely sold on it, but the new one makes a lot of sense. It is not so fast, but tiny, and I don't use this focal length so often, so it fits. That would leave me with 21/28/35/50/90 as a complete set, although I would probably not carry all of them for any particular task. 21/28/50/90 would be good for travelling. 28/50/90 for walking around, and 35/90 for crowds/portraits, for example events.

I do have to replace my 50 though. Given the high prices for the 50 Lux ASPH at the moment (new it costs 2800, I saw a used one go for 2750, and new ones on eBay are over new price), I thought that now it made sense to sell. My copy had a tiny mark on the rear lens, which I am not sure how got there. I suspect that it happened at Leica, since I never put my lenses down anywhere without the rear cap, but it took me too long to notice, and so I had to live with it. It really isn't large, but it was always bothering me, to the point that I would think more about the mark/scratch than the usage of the lens. I found someone who was interested and we made a nice deal for us both. I would really like to find an LHSA MP3 with 50 Lux ASPH kit, but they are just insanely expensive, so I have to wait and see how my life goes first If I can't find that for a reasonable price, I will probably just pick up a chrome 50 Lux ASPH.

Anyway, that is for later. I will not replace it until the M10 is out, with high resolution screen, faster electronics, quieter shutter and an improved rangefinder. Live view would be a bonus. For now I will use the money to get a 180mm f/2 Summicron, compare that to my 200/2 VR, and sell the one I like less. This has been an open question in my mind for a very long time, and I am happy to settle it once and for all.

Two more from my Demolition/Construction-Sites series that I plan to extend this year (the second being the reflections). I hope they are not too boring.

M2, Nokton 50/1.5, Velvia 50. At this distance the Nokton seems to be razor sharp. Look at the letters on the white plane on the bottom of the crane in the first image.

Thanks Charles, Heinz, Joe

Very nice portraits as always Charles! Love the rendering

Gregory - Nice diverse set. I like #4 best. Do you use a tripod when you shoot at night with the 50 Noct?

Heinz - yes, indeed that is very sharp. Looks like you got a great copy. Great colors in those shots. Velvia?

Joe - Nice shot of your son. I agree that it looks very similar to the 50 Cron rendering. To answer your question, yes, I have slowed down a LOT over the past couple of weeks. I am using 4-6 wk old pics right now....I'm starting to run out . As far as the 50 Planar I am very happy with it. The lens is a real bargain at that price....I like just about everything better with the Planar than the Cron.

Speaking of...here are some recent 50 Planar shots

p.310 #9 · Leica M/X/T/S/Q/CL/SL Picture Thread

Thanks Charles, Heinz, Ron & Ryan

Ron, I think it could be focus shift on the 90 Summarit. I also observed the same on my older 90 Tele-Elmarit. I think I read somewhere on the internet that even the 90Cron AA may have some focus shift. (Anyone has experience or can confirm?) If your 35 and 50 are also out, it could be the camera RF. These mechanical things are so finicky huh?

My RF could be slightly off but my 35Lux ASPH and 50Lux are spot on focus wide open which is why I suspect its the 90 Summarit design. Leica checked my M9 calibration when I sent the camera in for repairs last Dec and they told me it was perfect. I did a test with a tripod and focus chart over the weekend on all the lenses (finally), that's when I confirmed that 90 Summarit and 90Tele-E front focuses wide open. My concern is that if I send the lens (or all the lenses) and camera back to Leica, they might mess up the RF or 50Lux ASPH calibration plus it will take forever and I don't have a backup M9.

Heinz, I had the CV50/1.5 and it was great until the 50Lux ASPH arrived On the M8/M9 the CV is a really sharp and smooth (maybe too smooth for me!) but just missing the last 2-3% "character?" that the 50Lux ASPH has. Also the bokeh on the CV50/1.5 is not as easy to tame on the M9, sometimes its a bit "confused" Temptation.. temptation, somehow I think you will end up with a M9 and 50Lux ASPH in the near future? BTW, really nice shots of the crane, especially like the composition of #1.

Charles, excellent B&W portraits! Nice tonality.

Gregory, love the 1st shot, the cat and the self portrait!! Nice!

Ryan, very nice set wit the 50 Planar. I like the statue shot best. Glad you are happy with it and hope you get some rest

Thank you Ryan and Joe.

Ryan, yes, that's Velvia 50.

Joe, I agree that the bokeh is hard to predict. I've had it from very nice and creamy to harsh and not controllable and all stages in between. But, I only have the lens since a couple of weeks.
Sadly, I will not be able to purchase a M9 in the close future. I will move house and business to Berlin by the end of the year and that will cost me a lot of money, so a M9 is out of reach.

The decimal number says 27563 ...
So, that is the actuation number for the camera thus far... right?

Thanks Joaquin! The third photo of your set is my favorite of the three. Nice colors, and subject matter. I've always wanted a 50 Lux. But spent all the $$$ on the M9 itself! So I just use my poor man's 50 Lux, the CV 50/1.5.

Heinz, really liking the colours with the Velvia, and sharpness with the 50/1.5 Nokton. Very nice bokeh too
Armanius, very nice set of shots! I really like the portraits, and your shots with the 50/1.1 Nokton. Not an easy lens to focus!
