At the Korean Friendship Bell in San Pedro, between LA and Long Beach during an outing with Huss back in May. It looked to be a quinceaƱera photo shoot. I didn't ask much but the photographer said she was the subject's aunt, said she was 'only an amateur' and seemed a bit unsure about what to do for poses. I offered a couple suggestions and showed some examples of what I shot, but otherwise didn't get too involved as it wasn't my gig.

My New Years was rain all day, but at day's end the rain cleared opening the way to a brighter New year
Captured with 50 mm apo summicron and M11 EV1 the resolution of the 50 apo summicron never ceases to amaze me compared to any other lens I have.

Happy New Year everyone.

Polar Plunge ... now, how about those pics of them coming up OUT of the water.

P.S. Have you updated your SL3 Firmware ... can you report on AF-s vs. AF-c performance (better / same) with the Siggy?

SL3 firmware is installed and IMO it makes everything about the SL3 better. Faster, stickier AF. Tracking is better but i need to work with that more. This is with both the Sigma 24-70 and 70-200.

Thanks, good to hear. I'm mostly AF-s on my SL2-S. Had been thinking about the SL3-S, but with the release of the firmware update, I think it could put the SL3 on my radar if the AF is notably improved.

I guess I should make it clear that while improved, it is still not up to Sony A1 standards for focus tracking (which is where I came from before the SL3). So, while this does not make the SL3 able to capture birds in flight like a Sony can, it is better than it was (works fine on my slow moving dog!). Just want to make sure proper expectations are set.

Understood.

I demo'd an SL3 and wanted to use the Siggy 70-200 on it (to compare with the Panny), but the store didn't have it in L mount, so they popped one on the Sony. Yeah, that was "quick".

Going back to the SL3 (vs. my SL2-S), the Siggy 24-70 II was a bit quicker on the SL3, but my (seat-o-meter WAG) was about 10% - 20% quicker. Better, but not OMG better. That was BEFORE the firmware upgrade. So, no I don't expect it to be Sony level, but ... if the bar gets moved to say 30% or so quicker than the SL2-S (or previous SL3 firmware), that's meritable (imo) enough to consider the SL3 vs. the SL3-S.

So, "proper expectations" ... I hear ya.

The shots I previously posted with the SL3 and Siggy 70-200 at the polar plunge were all shot in AF-C in aperture mode. I was also shooting at 4 FPS and I had no problem locking and holding onto my subjects. The SL3 does blackout between frames making it harder for me to keep up with their pace. At higher FPS rates, I believe the SL3 moves into electronic shutter mode. I haven't tested enough to know where the change from mechanical to electronic takes place.

Understood. I'm pretty keen to not shoot in e-shutter territory. Usually it drops from 14 bit to 12 bit before it drops into e-shutter territory ... something like 9 fps, iirc. Going back to my 1D MK II days, 8fps was plenty good enough for me back then. These days, I typically keep it in 14 bit territory < 5fps for a 3 shot burst or so. First bump into 12 bit is usually the edge of things for me ... so, again, I'm not pushing things uber-fps. Mostly, I'm single shot ... relying on peak timing, more than fps. That said, it does come in handy sometimes.
