I’ve been taking the backroads home 100% of the time this past week… the thing I love most about the Q3 43 so far is that it is the ultimate WYSIWYG camera… if you see something that catches your eye, you stop, put your eye up to the viewfinder, get your framing, and make the image… it isn’t just marketing hype when Leica says that the lens mimics what we see with our own two eyes… it is almost exactly that… no requirement to move around to get the objects where you want them… they’re already in place in the frame, just as you saw them.
I think that makes 43mm the ideal focal length to document our individual daily lives. The downside is that the lens offers little in terms of helping the photographer to achieve their creative intent… it won’t let you over-exaggerate leading lines, like we can with a wide angle lens, or compress elements of the frame into the same visual space, like we can with a telephoto… so it can’t/won’t be the only camera I own… but I do believe it will be the one I take with me the most.
As test, I shot this image at night, hand held, in very low light, of a mural located between the hotel and the Leica Store Los Angeles. The Optical image stabilization and the little M 4/3 sensor still hold up well in this challenging situation.

Bob's a great guy to meet up. I think it's already been over 10 years since we did a walkabout in Minneapolis. Nice to see he eventually followed the logical path to Leica.
