Yeah in boot camp I still remember having to take off our masks in the gas chamber and sing the Marine Corps hymn with all the stuff that just pours out of you ha ha, Not pleasant memories.
Yeah I have a small full padded insert. Camera with lens fit perfect and a charger and extra batteries fit nicely in the little front pocket for when I travel.
I like it because it doesn't look like a camera bag and gets no attention on the streets. I have a good friend that had a WWII map case with a larger insert that works great for him. And another friend that uses an old gasmask bag like the one you showed.
