The timing is almost a predictable as the switch in wind direction that brings the Monsoons to East Africa. The end of Daylight Savings Time, a strong Santa Ana condition, ending as a cold front moves down the coast from Alaska. We will get our first Winter rains of the season within a few days. This weather change always bring with it incredibly vivid sunsets. This one was proceeded by one of the strongest "Green Flash" events I have seen here.
Right on time, I officially declare the start of sunset season here in Southern California. I intend to capture a lot of them as part of my Boardwalk photographic project. This first one is of Pacific Beaches Crystal Pier. I saw the conditions developing about mid afternoon. So, I put my small table top tripod in my pants pocket. This let me shoot the image from the top of the Boardwalk Wall. I did bracket, but this one is a single exposure.

Steve, it's 1 freakin 30 am. What are you doing still up?
You know I don't sleep much. I once went more than a year without going to bed to sleep. I just cat nap, rarely sleeping more than a few hours at a time. Both my Wife and I run business that are international in scope. The sun truly never sets on our obligations to work. Our beds are set up with technology so that we can be reached and respond 24 -7. We wouldn't have it any other way. I hope I am never forced to retire.
I think it is genetic. My Dad was a Nuclear Submarine Captain. Always on station. The Captains berth is right behind the bridge. Even after retirement he followed the same pattern. His last home he never even set up a bedroom, just napped in an easy chair in the living room.

Of course, I was also up at 1.30am commenting on why you were up..
This reminds me... when my time comes, I'd like to pass peacefully in my sleep. Like my uncle. And not like the 35 screaming passengers on the bus that he was driving.
