Thanks guys,

Luka- Thank you for that link, so informative!

CHarles- I actually only brought my M6 to SC as it is fairly new and I am exploring in film to see if I like it.
So far I find that I really enjoyed using it during my vacation as I wasn't always worrying about the photos. I wasn't taking time out of my vacation to review, and edit them. That was nice. I'm still not sure how my images came out so I can't say much more. I also noticed that I only shot about 72 shots during my 4 day trip. This was interesting as I noticed that I think more about each shot as each frame literally costs money. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing as the price is adding up, but overall it doesn't seem too bad.
I'll let you guys know more about my experience with film and some shots from the trip once I actually get them back from the lab.
Overall, I had a great trip.

Thanks,
Kyle

Well I'm with some others...I don't see too much of a problem with your old sharpening method. Te only thing I've ever noticed is haloing from heavy hand on the clarity

Luka, I'm with you - your new script is much better. It's amazing in the first example how much fine detail was lost with the 5D script. For example the antennas on the boats. Very nice images as usual.

I'm too lazy to run a Photoshop script and alternate between using LR to output at 1000 pixels with standard screen sharpening, or like these, 1000 pixel conversions through Photo Mechanic with sharpening enabled. Might be a touch too much though...

This thread sure is moving along fast! Nice series Charles - yes interesting legs on #2. Ryan the 90 looks good, did you sell the 35 Cron? Very studio-like with the X1 Gilbert. Interesting selection of images for the set Kyle. #1 & 2 seem to complement each other in a certain way. Of the three I like #2 the most. The dog almost looks like a stuffed toy.

Good capture Joe - firecrackers?

I just talked with someone today who wants to sell his never used M9, but he wants 90% of new, so I decided to pass. But he has a 75 Lux and a 90 Cron pre-ASPH, apparently the same version you guys have all recently purchased. I don't think I can talk him into parting with his 75 Lux, and even if I could, he'd certainly want the highest going rate for it. But he did offer the 90, though we didn't discuss price. So, what is a reasonable price for a minty version, in silver (not sure if it's silver or chrome..)?

Continuing with Geneva, in the old town area, around and in city hall. All M9 & ZM35C. I kind of got into a LR contrast and clarity run, so some of these might be a bit over the top punchy for some people's tastes..

Guys,
Finally FULLY appreciate the rangefinder focussing advantage - recently i took snaps at a dress rehersal for ballet performance. I was using the 1.4x magnifier for the most part until i thought of trying focussing without it - wow, what a difference, framing was so much more intuitive (the big problem though being with dimly lit stages, the frame lines were hard to see!). Super dimly lit but i am reasonably happy with the shots. Wish i was nearer to the stage though! I was roughly 6-10 rows back using a 90 APO and borrowed 50 Lux
Cheers

Ron, thank you
Great shots! Beautiful rendering throughout, like your shots come alive. Pricing for minty 90 Cron V3, is a tricky one, maybe $1,500 - $1,900. The 75 Lux, would be a great lens to own, if you can get a good deal to match the 90 Cron

KL, wow...outstanding shots!!! Great PP also. I love the colour, as so often, it can be sooo difficult to get the WB right under mixed lighting. Great stuff

Ron, nice shots - difficult to pick a favorite. Love the colors you are getting out of it. Regarding the price of a mint 90 Cron V3 - I paid ~$1,500 for it. Given that lenses are about 25% more expensive here in Sweden, you should probably be able to find something a bit cheaper - although the spread seems pretty large.

KL, excellent series. My favorite is the blue 50 Lux shot.

Luka, congratulations on the new 50 Lux Asph I did mention it was a heavy lens, but what a great lens to own. Focusing near MFD looks good!

Superb set of shots! I think my favourite is first one of the boat in the snow. What a spectacular location!

Good luck Luka, I can't wait to see the results

Ron - great set, I like them all. I think I like #1 best. You couldn't resist the columns, huh? . Yes, I got rid of the Cron to satisfy my Lux craving

KL - also a great series. I like #1 best. Great PP and the shots look super clean. What ISO were you shooting at? I agree, I thought manual focus with the D700 was a dream and then I use the Leica....this is the dream

Well...I found my favorite lens I have ever used. The 35 Summilux - WOW! What a lens. And this thing is fun. The 35 f/2 Cron ASPH is a special lens for sure, but the Lux is certainly in another league. Focus shift Who needs to complain about focus shift when the lens is stuck at f/1.4

Thanks Ron, Yes, firecrackers Ah.. enjoying your "column" series, very nice. Geneva is beautiful, I haven't been back there in awhile.

KL, another excellent set! #1 & 3 are my favorites.

Luka, more nice shots and I see the new lens is finally here. Looking forward to the duck and bench shots

Ryan.. WOW huh? Lovely lens. Very nice set of pics and its tack sharp. I think this will probably be glued to your M8 for sometime?

Charles, excellent portrait as always. Very nice B&W tones as well. I think I need to shop for a 90Cron soon, you guys are contagious.

Joe

Beautiful shots Ron. I like #3 best. That is some crazy contrast in #1....I like it! How are you liking the 50 Planar? Seems like it fits your style very well.

So, the 50 Summilux ASPH... Well, before I discuss my first impressions of it, let's take care of the formalities. One duck, one bench and I'll throw in a horse just for good measure:

I was warned by several people that the 50 Lux ASPH is similar in design to the 75 Cron ASPH. After trying it now I can definitely confirm that it's true. They are related - the 50 Lux ASPH is the little brother of the 75 Cron. The thing is that the little brother is an artist while the big brother is a bureaucrat working for the tax revenue service!

Man what a lens! It's superb at all apertures. I love the wide open look especially at medium distances (my preferred operating distance for wide open shots). The optical performance is astounding – a normal 50/1.4 would have difficulties delivering at f/4 what this one delivers at f/1.4. Remarkable. Stopped down it is equally good and precisely what I was looking for. Where the 50/1.5 Sonnar fails stopped down the 50 Lux ASPH succeeds – namely providing a uniform performance across the frame. I have perhaps encountered only one, trivial issue and that is that it unbalances the M9 somewhat due to its weight (the camera becomes rather front heavy). On the other hand it’s hands down the best built lens I’ve held. The 35 Lux ASPH feels like a cheap plastic toy compared to it.
Alright, here are a bunch of test images. I tried to test the lens in at different distances and apertures to get a general idea of its performance and drawing style. So don’t expect any Lofoten style photos
