Yesterday late afternoon my used in like new condition Cosina Voigtlander 21mm f/3.5 Color - Skopar ASPH Type II lens arrived. I bought it from another FM member on the B7S board. As usual exactly as described and a perfect transaction.
I bought this lens primarily for landscapes and architecture. But as with any new piece of gear I wanted to try it out. I took it down to the beach near the Crystal Pier at lunch time to try it out. I was expecting it to be a less than satisfactory range finder experience. But as I was shooting it everything seemed fine. If I used the entire range finder view it match just fine. Distortion was also much lower than I expected. Objects in the background were not as diminished as expected and the images were razor sharp.
I shot the image below to test shooting a subject with an landscape style background. It seemed to me to work well so I thought to myself that unexpectedly I could use this 21mm as a decent walk around lens as well. I was surprised by this. In fact, when editing my test shots I was surprised by how much this lens performed like my VM 28mm Ultron. I was very happy with the results, and how consistent the user experience and images are between the lenses in the same line. I was giving CV big props for that. But still, I had expected something entirely different.
Cosina has just announced the release of a 35mm Vintage line lens to match the 21mm and 28mm. They are all styled to match and are about the same size. They even use the same great looking rectangular hood. The same look and ergonomics, and similar optic look. So I went and pulled the camera out of the bag and took a look.
You guessed it. When I put the lens on the camera to go out today, I accidently put on the 28mm instead of the 21mm. That explained everything. I can be such a bone head sometimes!
Below is my DUH image. I guess I will go out and test my new VM 21mm Color - Skopar ASPH Type II tomorrow.

Too funny ... must be the salt air.
Side note, reminds me of a good friend I had when I was in SD. His nickname was BH. We called him "Bone" for short.

Naw, not the salt air. I am a bit out of sorts today. I have another 6 hour surgery scheduled for Monday. Today I started having to give my self injections in my stomach twice a day to prepare. I really don't like doing that, or having surgery.
Spent the day with my Wife celebrating her Birthday, so not much opportunity to test out the new VM 21mm f/3.5 Color-Skopar ASPH Type II today. We did stop at a pumpkin patch so I managed a couple of Scare Crow Images.
The lens seems plenty sharp from what little these very limited images tell us. It should be a good landscape and architectural lens. Also, yes it is best shot using live view for framing. Focusing is easy. At f/8 everything from about 3 feet to infinity is in focus.
