Polar opposite is right! Last Friday and Saturday were windy and really cold (for our area), but tons of fun out on the ice. Sunday was still below freezing, but warmer. I spent a couple hours in a secluded area along the shore blocked from the wind with full sun. Just sat there taking in the view and enjoying the warmth of the sun while waiting for the sunset. But I did miss the early part of the moonrise. Couldn't see it from there and had forgotten about it...

Being from Michigan and growing up in this stuff we knew how to drive/get around, but I'm staying home since most of the locals don't have a lot of time behind the wheel in this kind of weather..

Grew up driving in Ma. and NH , Very rarely did we have ice. Mostly snow and most cars switched out to snow tires around November. Back then, the municipalities had fairly substantial snow removal and treatment equipment available. Now in Ga since 78 I’ll say the snow removal and treatment equipment is nowhere near as robust as in the NE or upper midwest. Down here were more likely to get ice that lasts several days, than snow. Very few people from the north east or the south are able to cope with 1/4 to 1/2 Inch of solid black ice. After one storm wasn’t able to even get my FJ 4x4 with offroad tires 20 feet up our drive which was covered in 3/4” crystal clear black ice…. great for drinks just not driving. Fortunately we seldom get really bad storms and after one or two day back to normal… but you can determine the severity of the forecast by the amount of bread and milk left on the shelves.

Reminds me of my first trip to Charlotte NC about 20 years ago for a Panthers game. It was later in the season and a snowstorm was forecast for the state. All I saw on the local stations Saturday were news reports about the impending snow, doom & gloom and the National Guard being on standby, IIRC. Had to make sure to remind the person at the rental car counter to give me a snow brush for the car. I was preparing for the worst, get to the stadium super early, etc. Sunday morning: blue skies and nothing on the ground. Game attendance was something like 2/3 of a full house. But IIRC Raleigh got over a foot and it was a disaster.
