Sorry for the numerous similar images below. Just want to 'prove' M can shoot action and frame precisely while manually follow-focusing with the 90/4 Macro-Elmar lens. First two images cropped a fair amount, last four only rotated slightly to level the horizon and the resulting crop, but otherwise FF. Single frame advance and I timed my shots.
International DN class iceboats out on the frozen marsh near where I live. It was a lovely Sunday. Expecting a lot of snow overnight, so very interested to see how the landscape changes.
No offence to other Q owners but this is the first image I've seen that has caused me to consider getting a Q2. Would you mind telling me what aperture it was taken at and whether it was auto-focused? I understand that face detection is not great even on the Q2 but that tracking is OK. How do you find the AF?
Oh not a problem. This was at f/8 at 1/150 shutter speed. ISO 100.
I've never missed with the autofocus wide open. I don't use face detection. I basically aim the center focus indicator at the eyes or critical point of focus, then recompose.

BTW, I have some of my non-phone photos on Google Photos and searching "birds" or "pigeons" was a fast way to find relevant images, considering I don't keyword for specific image content. Faster than relying on my memory.
ISO 400, 0.4s hand held softened things, but you get the gist. Someday I might learn to use the ISO dial. I can't seem to get it through my thick skull that I'm not a human tripod.
