Hey, another page. Back in the fall some good friends of mine wanted some pics at their new property to announce they're expecting. M10-P + Summarit 75/2.4

No place to hide on the ship ha ha. We had to crawl all over the entire flight deck to different stations where there was huge vats of garbage and worse that we had to crawl through. All the shellbacks from previous cruises were the ones doing the initiation. They had cut off cotton fire hoses that had been soaked in water and as we crawled to the different stations they were hitting us on the ass with the 3 or so ft sections of the fire hoses. Keep you heads down wogs. AHH the memories...

Haha.... No hoses for us thankfully. Like I said, I think they toned things down a little, times being what they are.

Pollywogs before we crossed he equator and shellback after we had crossed and gone through the initiation. They took it very seriously. We got 2 full days off flight ops and the ship stayed on the equator for 2 days (July 1976 IIRC) Even though it was a small aircraft carrier (LPH) the flight deck was still huge. It was an intense to say the least. Keep you head down wogs.....

Which LPH? I was on the Oki (LPH-3).

It was primarily for intimidation purposes. I kinda wanted to jump off... Provided the Zodiac was nearby for a quick pull out.

We did go through a ceremony on the well deck where we got intimate with the Arctic water... I would love to go into detail but part of the process is swearing secrecy.

Funny you mention Shellbacks.... Not sure what the connection is, but prior to crossing the Arctic Circle we were Tadpoles, but became Shellbacks once we had gone through the ceremony. Was it similar for you?

OPPPS Oct 76 I think after some thought.

Yup, I decommissioned the Oki after getting back from a couple trips to Gulf.

I also refueled birds when I was on the Texas (CGN-39).
Nothing quite like holdin' a bird on the end of your hose while doin' a HIFR. That's a trip to keep her out of the drink while hanging below the deck.

Yesterday with the wind chill it was -31C. Today with wind chill -41C. It is nice to see the M9M lasts about 45 minutes exposed to the elements before it starts to say battery is low. Which today was about the right amount of time for me to be outside.

JEEEZE I thought it was cold here. Seems like that time you mentioned (45 minutes) is actually a bit excessive to me. The original MM is still rock'n.

Yeah, no thanks!! I don't miss it. Seeing these images was all the snow I need to see this winter...

It was a bit chilly here today (50f), but I stopped by the beach to see what may be lurking about and found this young man poking a dead seagull with a stick for some reason..

I think it is an homage to Monty Python's dead parrot sketch.
