Nice Doug! really like that second shot under the bridge. I think it would look even better in B/W

Anybody have an opinion on or use the Leica 35 f/2.5 Summarit? Thinking about this or the 35 Cron non-ASPH on an M8

Ryan, the Summarit line doesn't seem to be very popular around here. I think I found only one post from one person using a summarit on this thread when I did a search a while ago. They are getting good reviews as far as I seen but I guess they are up against some pretty tough competition

I think the big problem with the Summarits is their price. If you are prepared to buy one new, just buy a used Summicron instead for about the same price. Or a new Zeiss and save some cash. If you can find a Summarit used for a good price, it's probably a good deal. They seem to be nice lenses.

Thanks Ryan, I may try some BW conversions at home in LR3. I forgot my SD card at office yesterday, so just popped a few quick ones up. I have CS4 at office.

Actually, as dismal as my uploads have been at home, maybe this is the place to do my loads. I know one thing, if when my new router shows up, things don't get better, Comcast is gonna get an ear shot full.

You're killing me Doug!

Nice shots!

Give me a pm if you need some help on the tech front (I don't know your background, but I'm a career IT guy from helpdesk at apple to regional management / transcontinental creative director) - we can get something sorted!

I said when my new router showed up, I meant to say my new cable modem. Comcast told me my old clunker was going to be deactivated (2.0 based) Tech said he wasn't surprised to hear of my problems, in fact he said he was surprised it was working at all. So, I ordered a new Motorola 3.0 compatible cable modem from Amazon (saved a bundle over BB). Soon as it's installed, we'll see! thanks much what is your first name H00ligan?

guys, can I ask a favor, please post your first name in signature if it's not in your username... I like calling people by name.

I'm a little techy myself, but mostly an Apps guy, or was, lastly on QA team, not sure what I am on at this time, ask me in a month or two. Changing times.

I'm guessing many people choose the CV Color-skopar 35/2,5 over the Summarit due to the steep price difference. I'm guessing the CV is as good as anyone would ever need, but a Leica is still a Leica.

I'd suggest keeping the 7D and a 70-200 (or similar) until you're sure. Anything 50/75 and wider will be no problem with the M

+1

Doug, nice shots!

Ryan, from what I have seen, you do seem to like the glow in lenses, so maybe 35 Cron/Lux pre asph may be a good choice, if the price is right The 35 Summarit, is an excellent lens too, but may not have enough personality for you!

Here is an interesting link to getting pleasing skin tones. I have personally have struggled with this on the M9, but I feel I am now getting a much better feel for this for now anyway Skin Tones

Doug, nice shots! Good to see that you are having fun with the M9 and 35Cron! Take it slowly with the Leica lust, its a steep hill which never seems to end

KL, excellent shot with the biker from the train!

Ryan, go for the 35Cron! The Summarit is not as well built as the Crons and you really have to see it in person to see if you like the grip/feel of it compared to the Crons. Agree with Tim, with prices of used Cron so close to the Summarit, might as well go for the Cron and save yourself another buy/sell transaction

I borrowed a 5d2 today for an hour. Honestly, even with L glass it was flat. I certainly don't think I'd get one to use canon lenses on it, paying more than a thousand over the 7d (when it is less capable in many ways). The images were a touch cleaner.. a touch more detail... without printing big, I doubt I'd ever notice.

So why the hell is he bringing that up in the m9/x1/m8 thread?

Simple, it was another possibility, but I have very little desire to shoot MF on dslr.. though I may have found a deal on a zeiss lens that would be worth a shot...just to try.

That said, I also disqualified the m8 I think for me. With the need to crop due to inaccurate framing, I can see that 10mp image becoming 6 or 8. I've also looked around at a ton of images, and frankly I just can't see paying $2000-3500 for one.

So.. the m9 sacrifice draws closer.. at least I have a $100 coupon from the m9 workshop event. . Yah, that helps.

What's the price on the used cron?

Charles, your link is missing the H before ttp:

Thanks Charles!

Thanks Joe! Got to use it where your at, sometimes the subject mater is boring, make the most of it anyway. :-)

I'd have more shots to show tonight, but my modem problems continue at home. oh well.

Joe, got to go slow, except enjoying what I have until I get it paid, then I may think about phase 2 lens. I think though at most I am looking at 3-4 lenses total for the M. That's my max, and of course, I hear the camera is not ideal for anything longer than about 90 anyway. Problem is, I've always only had 1 gear, forward.

Edward, try this site. But his last update was May 2010 and prices seems to have climbed at least 15-20%. Else check recent transaction on the buy sell boards.

Used prices for Leica lenses were pretty much stable prior to the release of M8/M9. But with Leica having sold all of their planned production units for the M9 so quickly, I think used prices will continue to close the gap to the new lenses, but that's only my opinion.

Edit: Nice shot Kyle! Like the tones!

Edward, I just rechecked the site, the prices are more accurate on the main LEica lens page. This is a very good site to check on older Leica gear or other film gear prices.

Alright, sounds like Cron is the way to go. Found an optically mint (small blemishes on exterior) 35 f/2 ASPH for $1,800......its on the way . Now...if only Shaun will hurry up and let me pay for that 50 Lux and M8.2

Charles - your site you referenced above is a broken link

Kyle...great shot, love the look. Contrast is perfect

Phil...nice conversion

These 2 very nice Kyle and Jojo

Edward, I got my ASPH for 2/3 of new price. approx.

I didn't get a discount on the body, but I did take 6 months same as cash to give me time to muster up some cash on the body. Of course, the meter is running. But that doesn't scare a man like me. Maybesome girly man, but not me. . Why? Because I have a line of credit and a check.

The 35 ASPH Cron lens along with a 80 R Lux for my Nikon (to be converted) will be paid for end of month when bill balance comes. That 80 Lux is a beauty! To bad can't use for my M. Honestly, once the decision to go M was made, I was going to send the 80 back. But it had shipped by a day. Once I saw it, there was no way it was going back. A thing of beauty. With 3 Nikon bodies, I had no fear of having one around to use it on.
