Wow, 75 cron looks very tempting.
Am currently considering a 90mm - either the 90 2.8 elmarit-m, 90 cron (pre asph) or 90 APO. Any recommendations? Thought I would get a used 90 cron (pre asph) first to try out before leaping to the APO.
Meanwhile, a 28 elmarit pic at a wedding yesterday.
Ron: Yes, all the shots I have posted so far are wide open at 2.5. I lIke your last posted shot very much, very abstract(y)... Btw I was wondering why this seeming relaxing chair has the neck bend in opposite direction. Shouldn't it be like in the row of chairs on the back of it. Just curious. If I were to sleep I would pick the other chairs.
Charles: There is something in the pictures I can not describe; it is like soft glow(y) pictures. They are not crispy but nice.
Singletrack: Is it noise on the wall behind her or wall paper? What is the lighting?
I am having terrible back pain, I guess early disc degeneration in lower lumber spine so decided to take full rest in bed this weekend. Instead of reading something, I spent the Friday and Saturday redesigning my website. I changed it back from flash to php&jQuery. I love jQuery.
Hi jfreak,
Natural light from windows and the wall is carpeted, that accounts for the noise- like pattern. there is noise, but acceptable amounts to me.
Here's the link to the full sized pic link
Wow, full res looks even more beautiful. I was trying to see the exif on the image but could not see. What I am really surprised at is that there is noise but the subject is so much free from noise. May be because of the over all white in her dress and the fact that light is falling onto her relatively selectively. Overall, really a nice capture. Thanks for posting the full res link.
Edit: Never mind, saw the exif. For some reason the Safari exif plugin did not show the exif when it is full view or may be it was in the upper left corner of the browser window and I did not scroll to it.
KL, jfreak ... Thanks
KL beautiful shot and beautiful bride! I really like the shots from the 28 Elmarit
My suggestion would be one of three. 90 Cron AA, 75 Cron AA or Lux depending on the rendering you prefer. My favourite is the 75 Lux, but then it is critical to have a well calibrated lens and camera combo for the lens to work. I really like the extra light this lens captures too.
SingleTrack, I am very new to leica so would not be able to give you a worthwhile suggestion. I purchased Summarit as I have M8 and with it the FL becomes 100mm which is what I like for close shots of my son. Other favourite is FL is 35mm. Since I have 1d MKIV so 1.3x crop seems natural to me now. Why summarit?
1. I wanted a smaller lens.
2. With Zeiss 100mm I nearly always miss focus at correct spot for my son's shots so I usually end up smaller than f2 with zeiss.
3. Steve Huff in his review said Summarit is plenty sharp. (That actually gave me a little assurance that though cheaper it is not that bad compared to big guns).
Sorry, a long reply and not very concrete. Good luck with your pursuit.
Charles, Happy New Year and very nice B&W shots! while you are basking in the sun, we're having snow and rain here
KL, very nice shot of the bride. As for 90mm FL, it depends on how often you are going to use it? 90Cron AA would be my top choice but all the other 90mm lenses including the pre AA 90Cron and 90 Elmarit are good. For me, 90 is not my main FL but its nice to have it in the bag, so I keep a 90 Tele-E, almost the same size as a 50Cron and does not take up much space. You might want to check out a 75FL instead since you already have a 135?
Great images Charles, KL & Chad (nice airport/travel set).
I also noticed the background in your bride shot KL, but I bet the texture would be much less noticeable in print. Displays have the tendency to make subtle 'noise' in shadows more noticeable than would be in print. The 28 has me curious as there are times I'm finding the 35 a bit tight. I might end up settling on a 21-28-50-75 set some day. There don't seem to be many, or any, decent 28s out there other than the Leicas, unless someone can make some suggestions?
Vikrant: Interesting catch about the chairs... is that an occupational observation? I suspect he's using that one because of the lower leg support missing from all the others. I guess everyone is different but I fall asleep much faster with my head leaning forward than backwards while on flights, etc. I hardly ever recline my seat because of this.
Not a New Year's photo, but close in spirits (haha): Mauro's Negroni Club in Munich. A very nice, laid back place with great drinks.
Doh! the AF picked up the background again, haha... (just joking of course)
Thanks Tim.. I was afraid you (or Charles) might say that
I haven't traditionally been drawn to 28, probably more 24, but yeah, 35 feels at times too tight inside. I don't know... maybe I should save up for the 24 Lux (haha...) Actually the 24L is a lens I've been wanting to get for a while so the Lux might not be that crazy, other than the price. Yeah, it never ends.

Looks like everyone is recovering today...? This thread is slipping down the first page, so here's a photo to illustrate how I feel at the moment:

With respect to noise at higher iso's, just a heads up, in the GetDPI forum, there is a very interesting ongoing topic about how to reduce noise at high ISO's eg 2500, and how to reduce the noise to virtually nothing via Adobe ACR RAW adjustments. Very noteworthy. I have tried it, and it really works!!!
Charles...do you have link to that topic? I would like to check it out. Thanks
