Did a rough and dirty test of the 50/2 ZM with and without corrections while the fiance was shopping for christmas stuff.. Yes, after my session it was shopping time (which I actually enjoy when the malls aren't PACKED).

Quick results that I noticed, the optimizer fixes slight vignetting, it seems to also do a slight curves adjustment (I could be wrong), and a slight color shift... Again it was quick and dirty, I'll do some real testing when I have a day to myself.

Two shots, one because I was bored while the fiance was shopping today. The other I took while waiting for my food yesterday, also bored.. Just liked the way the lens rendered the scene in the second shot, so thought I'd share.

Best,
Adam

Exaggerated reds combined with otherwise flat colours... Canon? Haha, just kidding. Nice touch.

Don't leave your Leica lens to close to a Canon.

Nice set of pics Joakim. You just validated to us that red stands out too much and detracts from the picture The first shot is my favorite.

Adding to what Joe wrote: the lens codes are read by the M8 and M9 body, and used to apply corner corrections to the RAW/JPG at the time of capture/recording. Each lens should be coded as itself, in the case of a recent Leica lens without code, or the best match in the Leica lineup, in the case of Zeiss and Voigtländer. The best match is not always the most obvious choice, since Leica lenses often have less vignetting, for example, so ask around here or on l-camera-forum.com to get the right code. Then look it up in the table,

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I might go and have a look at a M8/9 before Christmas and have a play with one.

Cheers

Thanks Charles - its the ZM 85 f/4, not the f/2, though it is a good lens. I don't think it's a focus calibration issue, just me not being careful enough. At the moment I'm primarily using the M with wide lenses and can afford to be somewhat sloppy with focusing. The 85 in anything other than infinity situations doesn't tolerate lax technique.

Thanks guys! I hope you didn't mind my little red dot joke.

Charles, the first one is a very nice portrait and I like the depth in the second one. From the 50 Lux photos the second one is my favourite.

Ron, the second one is great.

Thanks Joakim, Carsten, Joe & Charles!

I'm lagging a bit behind but loads of nice shots on the previous page guys!
Charles, I paricularly like #2 of your 75 Lux series. Love the city backdrop - it looks like something from a science fiction movie.

Charles, I notice that the skys are usually very dark on your beach shots. Does it rain quite a bit there? I like the Lux series a lot.

Luka, the 18 and 75 shots you post are by far my favorite, but these 50s above are excellent! Bringing it up again....those shots would not have been made by you with the 5DII . Funny how our styles change with the different systems...and how a rangefinder really is better than a DSLR for street shooting

Thanks Ryan

Yes, a rangefinder is as good for handheld shooting as a DSLR (with live view) is for tripod based shooting. Right now it's rather cold and unpleasant weather here so slow paced tripod shooting isn't all that fun. The only real "issue" I have with the M9 is when I need accurate framing. I had to retake the boat shot above five times before I got both the stern and the flag within the frame.

Ron, nice shots from the last 2 sets. Like the last subway shot.

Charles, nice shots from the beach with the 50Lux & 75Lux. The first one with 50Lux is my favorite. Nice composition. The 50 Lux seems like an excellent all rounder

Nice shots Luka Did you use the external viewfinder with the ZM18?

Great shots everyone!

Just a couple from my newly arrived ZM 50 Planar and one from a super old 90 Elmar (produced circa 1952)

And this is the one from the 90 Elmar

Nice shots KL and congrats on your new lens. Like the 1st "grumpy" shot and also the rendering on the 3rd shot very much .. seems very 3D llike.

Looks like you got a good copy of the 90 Elmar. Can't go wrong with most Leica lenses.

I agree - I also thought it looked like something from a movie.

Very nice set of images Luka!

Nice images KL and I'm looking forward to getting that ZM 50 in the near future.

Here's one from the 21 2.8. I'm not sure why the area inside the columns was roped off like this... it might be undergoing cleaning/restoration or it's just to keep people off the icy surface in the winter, but it didn't discourage some from climbing up and playing around a bit. I'm glad I stuck around a bit for the sun to break out from the clouds and to catch these girls among the ropes:

The exif indicates ISO 320 1/350 f/11. Not sure if it was f/11, but definitely somewhere thereabouts above f/8. I'm quite impressed with the clarity/sharpness of the ZM lenses and the M9 sensor. For example these 100% crops from the above image, at the default LR sharpening, which probably could be optimized, but still, I like it:

A few more from this location:

ZM 85 f/4 (that's not a strange halo/sharpening artefact on the column at right, just the edge of a shadow)

ZM 35 f/2.8:

ZM 21 f/2.8:

Nice John!

A bunch more to leave you all with for the time being... wrapping up my trip and might be fairly preoccupied with work, etc. when back home, so not sure when I'll add some more..

Those were all shot with the 35. I seem to be using it about 80/20 vs. the 21 but am wondering if a 28 might suit my 'street' a bit better. Sometimes I find the 35 a bit tight, and considering I plan to get a 50... but I guess that's one of those seemingly endless lens debates.

Nice shots Ron and John.

CV Nokton 50/1.5

-------------------
Am in a dilemma (kind of), was thinking of adding a 75Cron as my next lens but the 50Lux ASPH seems like it should be in my kit before the 75Cron? 35 is my main FL and wanted a 75Cron for 2 lens walkabout. The other option is to add the 50Lux to my existing 35 and 90Tele E for a 3 lens kit. I'm leaning towards a 35, 50Lux, 90 Tele E for now... but on the other hand, I cannot really find fault with the Nokton 50/1.5 at 10% the cost of the 50Lux. It never ends, does it? Opinions please?
