Yes and no. Yes it is a better experience now. The sharpness has gone up considerably and thus the images have more pop. Not that sharpness is the only factor of a good photo, but it does help draw the eye, especially in black and white. I'm also hitting focus more consistently again, which is a plus And the bokeh and falloff has gone back to what I consider familiar, so the rendering is nicer all around.

However, I still think the 50APO is wasted on black and white simply because of my love for the way the 50APO renders

Thanks Adam, I appreciate your response. Right now the M-246 is my main M and I am looking forward to do most of my color shooting with the S-006 so I'll not change my camera bag (in this regard, for now... )

I was in Paris last weekend on a workshop arranged by the guys behind DearSusan, I got home with load of images that I am now working my way through. Here is a first batch.

Mono and color. M9/35FLE/C1.

Sadly, experiments with scale focusing my 21-35 haven't been pleasant: not only is it far from parfocal, focus distance is not accurate at any focal length. Still, I now know where to focus to hit infinity, and the 35FLE is delivering the goods for other types of shooting.

Cheers,
Jon

In that case it's a really tough call.. As a lot of what makes the 50APO special is in the colors. Though again, I'm sure going straight into it using the M246 you won't know to miss the colors and might find it special. Especially if you're over the Noctilux (I bought and sold the Noct. 3 times already).

Sorry that I'm conflicted myself and can't give it a 100% recommendation when shooting black and white. Though again it's a lot more familiar now that I've ditched the color filter.

Joakim - those street captures are exceptional!

Edward - 2 great portraits. Don't you miss moving the focus tab to align a rangefinder? 😃 I bet the SL compensates for your loss!

Thank you very much David! Yes, I miss the rangefinder badly The SL is a completely different beast. I've been practicing to zone focus with peaking. Works well enough but nothing beats the rangefinder for stealth candid shooting.

JAZZ MUSICIANS AT A WEDDING.

It's hard to tell from these shots, but the room was really very dim. Bright light streamed in from the windows. High contrast scenes, to say the least. But the X Vario, as always, gets the shot! All were ISO 1600. Love that X Vario.

Fog is an interesting kind of soft box, especially when it is thick enough to add atmosphere but thin enough to allow lots of light to penetrate. M9/35FLE/C1.
