Ok, Joakim ... how in the heck do you shoot the Rokkor 58 1.2 on the monochrome? I have one, but have only used it on a XG1 film body.

It was already converted to Canon EOS mount when I bought it so I actually have a EOS->M adapter just for this.

Does the Monochrome have liveview? How did you focus it?

Speaking of old 50's, I would like to try a Nikkor 50mm RF lens. Any special version to look for that is on pair with the Canon 50/1.4?

Yes, I have the new Monochrom that is based on the M 240 so I used a EVF for focusing.

Hey Joakim. I would try out the Nikkor 5cm f/1.4 SC. Classic sonnar design that can give interesting results. Ton's of funky SA bokeh and flaring wide open but it is a lot of fun. Compared to the Nikkor, the Canon is much more well behaved and more predictable in output. If you lived closer I would send you the Nikkor to try out...

Thanks Gary, I'll have a look at that one. In the meantime I will have another old 50 to test when I get back to Stockholm

Beautiful spot Gary. Is that some kind of fire pit in the second?

These are both M9/90AA

Does anyone have some pics taken with the classic Canon 50/1.4? I was chatting with a Leica service guy here about 50mm options for the M9 and he said that in his opinion the Canon was by far the best bang for the buck, comparing favorably with the Summilux of the same era. Found one for a good deal but it'll be a week before it gets here. Been googling a bit for pics but mostly find grainy TriX shots...

Hi Christer,

I have the Japanese Summilux (LTM 50/1.4) and love its price-performance ratio and character!

Sacreligious, however here's a shot for info LTM 50/1.4 at 1.4 on Sony A7R

I also have used it when I had a number of other 45-50 lenses (some now sold or traded) and tested it on both my M9 and also the A7R. I seem to have deleted the M9 test album from Flickr, however here's the A7R one: A7R with various 45-55mm rangefinder lenses

cheers,
David

Quality images continuing (as fully expected) on this thread

I completely messed-up in attempting to wet-clean some stubborn dust specks on my M9 sensor, with the result that it will require a professional clean. Attempting that clean a day before flying to UK for a month was not smart, so now I'm using alternative gear(lucky to have the choice).

Here are a few from back in Australia a couple of weeks back.

The old guy and his dog were spotted when I was inside a café. The lighting was all wrong but I tried getting something useful in any case. M9 with Summicron 35 Type 1 and Summarit 50/2.4 - sort of both ends of the lens age spectrum!

Thanks, David -- again, it looks really promising! Mine has now left Japan (and my LTM -> M adapter as well) so should be able to test it out next week if all goes well. My Summaron 35/2.8 (rigid, non-goggled) will also return from a CLA (it looked 100% perfect but the focusing was a bit stiff so sent it off to the local Leica doctor), so next week should be like Xmas.

One more from the 90 'cron, what a piece of glass…

Hey David,

Old guy? I must be careful that I don't post any selfies. It's all relative; you must be a young guy.

Cheers,
Robert
