Youtube is full of crazy cell phone videos of this sport in Thailand and Indonesia. Now, I would not want my daughter involved, but I'd love to shoot them myself, what a spectacle!

These kids do crazy stuff, like driving on the highway against the traffic It would be tough to shoot though, because of the very low light levels, and also they just appear unexpectedly but it would be a really fantastic spectacle when the Thai police comes to catch them
Edward, I was never a big fan of from the hip shooting but more recently it's been more of an easy way out than anything. I usually walk by and don't have time to raise my camera because my camera is slung at hip height, or catch my subject doing something of interest so I just use the distance scale and shoot to ensure I don't put them off. Sometimes I do it to get different perspectives or try shooting lower and like what I get. It's something I started doing more with the RX1 and it's carried on now - but I do try to make a conscious effort to shoot with the camera to the eye and learn how to focus with a rangefinder cause that's what I bought the M for.
Ps it's great to see your photographic style carried around the world. I think when such style and your eye for certain things is replicated in different places with different people and settings it's pretty admirable.
Gary I prefer the first waterfall pic over the other, something to do with the dissymmetry of the water. As for the other shot..I quite like it. I can never deny a shot with nice flare
I admit a few of my previous posts shots count as some of my personal favourites. This set probably doesn't compare, but I suppose it does convey a sense of different parts of Singapore
Some taxi drivers ("uncles") taking a coffee break at the coffee shops. I think for Singaporeans taxi uncles are quite a mainstay in local culture. Politics/rumours make their rounds and spread pretty quickly amongst them, and then to their passengers, and then around the country..if they happen to strike a conversation with you in their cars. Though thats not to say their conversations with you can't be apolitical in nature either.
Chas, thank you for the kind comments. I was actually pulling your leg with the hip shooting comment. Admittedly you take great shots that way that would be impossible otherwise.

Sold all my Nikon gear today and replaced the little hole in my heart with a nice M-P 240, 28mm Cron ASPH, 50 Lux ASPH and a 75 Cron APO. My heart likes!
My photo doesn't compare to the sheer quality of photos in this thread, but here's a little something until I can familiarize myself around a rangefinder.
Alpha, you did exactly what I did a month back. All my other gear (primarily nikon related) has gone. Didn't get an M-P though, or a 75cron.
Edward, your comment coincided with a little bit of my own post shooting reflection on "why I bought the M" after going through quite a number of "from the hip" shots, hence the slightly longer than necessary reply. Trying to break out of it and be a little braver shooting streets with the camera to my eye.
Just a quick question:
I recently noticed little dot(s) on the out of focus areas of 2 shots.
The first example is from the 50lux bokeh on the left side The spot only occurred once in a series of 3 shots. I never noticed such in other photos shot by the lux
The 2nd photo is from the 28cron, top right hand corner crop. It's the little line within what I think is a bit of flare. Again I never noticed it in any other shots. I don't think this is because of processing because the DNG has that artefact and I played with shadows and highlights and it still remained.
Just wondering what they might be. I suspected dirty rear element of some sort, but i cleaned the element when I received my lenses and they don't recur consistently enough to confirm this.
Thank you for the warm welcome fellas! I don't know how to explain it, but the camera just feels right in my hands. It has inspired me even more to go out and shoot. I've been lurking here ever since I adapted my first Sony A7 with a 35 Cron-R...and have been drooling ever since.
I look forward to taking in everyone's photos and sharing some of mine as well.
Just to add to my question and edward's reply
The internals of the lenses are very clean - no major dust at all. I would've thought that if it was internal it'd appear in a lot more photos. Anyway it's not a huge deal, it just bothers me when it turns up, which is rare (I'd say almost literally 2 photos in around 1000 pictures. Maybe other pictures I just never noticed it much).
One more question. I just noticed hot pixel-esque spots in my pics from my camera LCD. They also turn up when I review the pics through the EVF. I snapped some shots at ISO 1000 (the iso they appeared) and in the blacks, these hot pixels turned up again. I figured it must be something up with the sensor but when I looked at the pictures in my computer (LR and preview on mac) they're gone. Am I right to say that the image preview and LR remove hot pixels when identified? Aside from sending the camera to Leica I don't have much of a choice but to live with it do I? Again I'm not bothered by it because they seem to be cleaned up in the computer for me
Alpha..I know right! I Leitaxed a 80lux to my D800 and I couldn't go back. Sometimes I hold the camera and look at it and it gives me warm fuzzy feelings...

I did read that it is possible the 6bit coded 28crons may have changed coatings for digital. Not sure bout that but mine's non-6bit. The boy in the flare by aFrIcanSH
Mostly just paging and liking over the last 4 or 5 so pages.
Have had a 3-week visit from my 24 year old nephew and his mate, all the way from N Ireland. that has kept me busy showing them the delights of our part of Australia, especially the back roads in and around Canberra (apart from their own 4000km 1-week road trip ) since they are off-road driving enthusiasts 'back home'. Accordingly, I have really been shooting snapshots with them mostly.
Anyway, back to this ever-favourite thread on FM. The quality and variety of the photos never ceases to please. Loved the Prague and Krumlov ("Karalove"?) scenes Edward. aFrIcanSH (Chas?), I think your style is similar to that of Edward's quite often, in that you capture SE Asian everyday life.
Now, a flashback to Katie's question about the A7R: My own experience with the A7R is one of enjoyment due to its sheer versatility and IQ, albeit it's just not a pleasurable camera to shoot in comparison to a Leica M, so I find myself carrying my M9 much more than the A7R.
OTOH I simply love being able to shoot the Canon FD TS 35/2.8 on the A7R, using the focus-peeking to verify selective focus in real-time. Similarly, I can shoot such a wide range of legacy lenses, extremes being the Rollei Distagon 25/2.8, to the Canon 70-300/4 IS L using a Metabones Mk III adapter; and P67 and P645 lenses via appropriate adapters! The only native lens I own is the superb FE 55/1.8 ZA.
Finally, a couple of recent shots with the M9, all with 8-element 35 Cron Type 1 except for #4.

Beautiful photos, Chas and David, and thank you for the kind words, David. My favorite shot is no. 3, Chas, while I really like Dave's first two.
Regarding the hot pixels, I can see them on my camera too. There are like 2-3 of them, but LR/ACR removes them automatically so no worries. They're normal sensor aging artifacts that I've seen in every digital camera I've owned.
As for the bokeh dust, you can even see it in older movies shot on film. It may not be visible in the lens, but these microscopic particles get magnified considerably. Sometimes they can also be on the sensor. Shoot a photo at infinity at f/16-22 and if you see the spots in exactly the same place then it's on the sensor. The funny thing is that the particles only show when shooting at wide apertures and some people call them dirty blur discs compared to normal dust that shows only at small apertures.
It would be tough to shoot though, because of the very low light levels, and also they just appear unexpectedly but it would be a really fantastic spectacle when the Thai police comes to catch them
