Robert,

Buy a ticket to Hong Kong. I've seen one place advertising the M-P for just under $5000 US. A couple people have mentioned Fotopia. They list the M-P on their website for $5722 US, but apparently that may be negotiable. I have heard of various Hong Kong prices being more around the low $5000s. Here's the Fotopia M-P black

If you're considering this, I would definitely shop around.

1) Sales tax in Boston is generally 6.25%
2) That is the current 12% discounted price, as also seen at B&H, etc.
3) Probably OK. From what I have heard, it's more a problem
...Show more

Thanks Ron,

The idea behind Boston is a friend of mine moved to Boston so I could combine a trip to him with buying. So there will be no shipping to the EU.
But Hong Kong sounds extremely cheap.

Looking again at the US prices I see there is no difference in price without VAT. So if I import the camera I still have to pay as much as in the Netherlands. So after all it makes no difference..

For the M-P, when the Q came out I thought it was the perfect companion for my MM. But thinking about it, for the 4000 euro price I can also buy a used M240. After all having a perfect 28mm.
And after that I thought with the 12% discount I can even buy a new one The M-P looks great but is yet another step up in price.

Besides I don't know if its smart to buy a new M240 or M-P at this moment. So maybe I just have to focus on a used M or maybe M-P if they appear on the used market.

Taken two trips with the 240 now, very happy with it! Returned with 40% battery still left as well (only have 1 battery). The only downside, and it's only a tiny, tiny dent... is that I was really drained of energy the whole time due to the heat and humidity (and perhaps mind jetlag). But well worth it. We had a really memorable time!

Great work everyone!
Cal - congrats on the 75 Lux! I love that lens from the short time I tried one.
Joakim - thanks for the feedback on the 135/2 Apo!

Hey guys

After my holiday with the MM and A7 I'm sure I don't really like the A7. So I'm kinda looking at a M240 to complete the MM.

Here in Holland the M240 costs 6630 euro including vat (21%).

I just got a message in the US there is a 12% cashback until july. Looking at leica store miami, and B&H the camera costs only 6380 dollar which is about 5600 euro.

So 1000 euro, or 1150 dollar cheaper.... Quite a lot.

Now my question:

1: Buying in Boston, how much VAT do I have to add to this price?
2: Is the 6380 price

At this point, I would only buy a new M if it was Leica demo/refurbished and competitive with Hong Kong pricing, or directly from Hong Kong. It's too close to the probable announcement of a successor model in a few months to pay full retail, IMO. As for used, that is somewhat complicated too, because you have to factor in the price relative to the availability of refurbs.

If the M240 successor is priced at $7000 US and incorporates the advances found in the Q, it's possible used M prices will drop a bit, but probably not a lot. If the new M is closer to the $6000 range, then it will probably affect used prices more. It also depends on whether the M240 will continue as the M-E replacement, which will probably drop new retail to around $5000 and further depress used prices.

My feeling is the situation is different from three years ago with the M9, which held resale better than the M240 seems to currently. There is probably somewhat of an excess of digital M supply.

I've been traveling a lot recently, and didn't see the PMs regarding the requests for title change of this thread.
Though delayed as it is......I'm more than happy to add Leica S and the new Q to the title...

Although many do not use the 50lux asph as a landscape lens it is incredible for such use. It resolves fine detail at distance so well....
