Very nice, René.

So what number is the new camera? You guys are mentioning 116, 117, 113...?

Adam, the X Typ113 has an f/1.7 lens and Leica calls it Summilux. This is also the case for the Panasonic m43 15mm f/1.7 lens.

As I posted in Andrew's thread, the rumoured 'Q' specs look very appealing. But with it being Leica, there has to be at least one catch somewhere!

As for walking the streets with an M, so far I haven't gotten into discussions with anyone commenting about the camera. Very rarely I get 'cool camera' or 'is that film?' comments. I'm not sure my chrome 50 Lux catches more attention either, but I do prefer black.

Most deeper inquiries are at weddings or other events where I'm in an official photographer capacity interacting with guests over the span of hours. Most want to know why I'm using an old camera, or a film camera and are often surprised to learn it's only 2 years old and digital. Lately the 'youngs' (if I'm going to be called an 'old') dig its retro look, since many things nowadays seems to be about throwbacks to some other era. Occasionally someone knows what it is (brand, or more rarely, model). TBH, it's difficult to give a concise answer to someone why I'm using an M over a DSLR, beyond the very valid, if perhaps unsatisfying brushoff of 'I like it.'

Much of what I post here I could shoot with my Canon gear, or any other DSLR or mirrorless system. Perhaps even with my phone. While the technical results might be similar (except with the phone, haha), the process with the M system is more enjoyable for me than anything I have used over the past couple decades. When the end result is virtually indistinguishable to the layman's eyes, and if that, as a photographer, is what I'm delivering on a constant basis, then I think it's logical to inject something into the process to make it more enjoyable (or challenging), otherwise I might as well just be a button pusher. I suppose we all try to personalize things to better suit our perception of ourselves. Maybe by wandering around parts of the world with a Leica, I'm subconsciously hoping people will think of me as a doctor or dentist on holiday, rather than a poor working photographer.

The reality is simply that I like it. It does what I need, the way I need it.

Yes, that's what I meant, it's a Summilux 1.7 for all the crop sensor cameras. So maybe this new camera isn't FF? Though all the rumours say it is.. So who knows. Noticed this new camera (Q) has macro function like the RX1. And lets hope the hidden catch, as you call it, isn't that of the X113(?) 1.7 camera where it changes the F/stop on you pending what you're focusing on.

Also completely agree with you about the M-system. You, other M fans, and myself like using the camera and that's really all that matters in the end I suppose. As long as you're happy, and if you have clients, they're happy.

I tried some Lee Filter/Tripod seascapes with the M9 the other night as an experiment (using my 100mm filters.)
It was OK but I see little reason not to continue to use my A7R, especially now it is heading off for the Kolari Thin Filter conversion.

With the M9 - I carefully composed my scene, then attached a 55mm step up ring I have, so far so good.

Then I attached the Lee Filter adapter ring and looked through the viewfinder - I really hadn't totally thought the whole process through! Of course, I could see nothing much but the huge adapter ring - and I really don't have the commitment to unscrew it for every single composition. Gave me a great laugh though!! You just have to try some things first hand to figure out the shortfalls!

Here are a couple of the attempts anyway, both 21 SEM.

Coogee, the last two are really beautiful! like them a lot.
Gary, really enjoy your landscape shots posted. top notch process and What a beautiful place around you.
Edward, top quality street work as always. the color is just beautiful.
Ron, Your city architecture images always impress me. but you abstract work from forest even more impressed and deserve printing one or two on the wall.
Charlie, the latest images you posted indeed show better processed skill and I enjoy them a lot. Looks like we do benefit experience from multi-system
Joakim, nice tone from M246. You seems have found your perfect tool for street photography.
Rene, always enjoy your picture, you have great eyes to capture flee moment or views around you.
Werner, Your city work are always inspiring. strong and bold.

I enjoy this thread. sorry if I miss anyone.

I have a few images took with Leica M9 recently, but never found time to process them. It becomes a habit that I don't want release the photo as is

a little write up for the 75mm Summarit I recent bought. 75 Summarit is top quality lens, it is better than 90 elamrit I had. It is a very strong performer that sharp to extreme corner WO. I also like the fact is very small and take 46mm filter. 75mm is about as long as I am willing to take with M system. My past experience with 90 is not good make me decide sell the 90 ELmarit i had. but 75mm seems very usable for me. I don't notice abnormal low keeper rate. Highly recommended lens if you can find one in good price.

Well, since this is image thread. Here is one I spend a little time yesterday from San Francisco Land end.

cogee, I have also used my Lee filter set with my M9 so I recognize your story It does require some planning. I am looking forward to try the filters on my MM-2 this summer.

Michael, I also like the new 75 Summitar. Both image quality and handling.

^^ Well, more proof the ZM 18 is killer The camera and the shooter look pretty good too Love the DOF contrast in that set, with the first shot WO focus on the bow, and then more DOF in the following shots. Inspires me to push that limit.

Of course I'm referring to Joakim as example of fine lens use, but here's one of mine from last nite with ZM 18 too

Charlie, really enjoying your images. I prefer your recent pp too as others have mentioned, they have lovely tones in them. Joakim great work with the 18ZM. I feel that its probably the strongest performing lens in their ZM lineup.

This is what I've been up to lately and I was over excited when I got my first roll of film back last week. I'll be shooting the MP once I reskin the leather, hope you guys don't mind the film shot from the Hassy.
