@Edward Wow the 35/1.4 looks killer!!
@rirakuma loved that long set in the mountains
@Werner the nocti shot of the hat is really sweet.
@ mitch, been really liking your color work

and many many other wonderful shots by everyone.

@Adam, so sorry to hear you having issues with NJ. Yikes! My precious M9 on the way there now for new shutter. But sensor is still good so hoping it won't be forever. Any tips on how to deal with NJ apreciated, for all. I just filled out the form and sent in the camera.

The Kolari A7 mod arrived just in time, and it's a decent backup

Sorry to hear about that Charlie (and Adam)!

As for Leica NJ... they're like an M9: they do things their way; you either conform to it, or.... seems like you can't rush them. But you can keep checking back to make sure they don't slip on an ETA, if so promised. The thing is they know turnaround times need to be improved. I have been told this face to face by one of the CSRs. And as we've discussed here many times, is probably the greatest letdown of Leica's brand. Quirks with the equipment can be tolerated to a degree. Sometimes it even adds to the charm. But when/if it suddenly goes down, and you're then told it will be 4, 6, 8 weeks... it's unacceptable. We've all paid significant premiums to buy into the system. It would be nice to get something back for it on the customer service side of the equation. Pro support also needs tremendous improvement. I asked for it, and apparently got it when my 50 Lux ASPH needed an overhaul. Instead of 8 weeks, I was promised (and received) ~4 weeks... I guess, good thing I have 5+ 50mm lenses to choose from.

Can anyone who reads Chinese tell me what this poster says? TIA.

This is what my GF says, via IM messages:

From the top:

Ancient hall of repay (waiting for clarification on what 'repay' means)
Right: spiritual or powerful talisman
Left: safe and sound
Middle top three: the name of the Taoist master they believe in (Google translate: Song Dafeng)
Middle lower: blessed

It's a Taoist amulet for the house.

She sent me this Google Image search link

She says:

From the images it looks like he is quite popular in Tailand. The hall of repay is his 'house name.' But he is actually a Buddhist monk in south China. But that amulet is Taoist.

It may be related to Chinese immigrants and it's possible there are other Buddhist sects that use the amulet (but she's not sure about this aspect).

Thank you Charlie and sorry to hear about your M9. Shutter replacement is a straightforward and easy fix, though it might be costly if the camera is out of warranty.

Great photos everyone!

Thanks, Ron. Bangkok is ethnically about 50% Chinese and Thailand is 10%, though the majority do not necessarily speak any Chinese languages. The most common on is Teochew (Chiu Chow in Mandarin).

Ron - I'll explain my situation at a later date (just know that it was BAD).. I'm still really annoyed right now. I think it's best I just go out and take photos, or else I'm sure next week you'll see me on the fuji forum or something.

Hi Adam,

Very sorry that you have had problems with Leica Camera USA in New Jersey. I can not say that I have experienced problems with them since I started dealing with them in 1984. But, I have heard of others having issues in the past.

Rich

I've wanted an M9 for many years now and I think very soon I might be able to finally afford one. I'm pretty sure my first lens will be the Voigtlander 35/1.2II. It will literally be a dream come true to own the camera; I really hope it ends up happening.

I'm hoping for the best it's sort of pending on a deal with my RX1 and I'm taking a pretty massive hit on that, those cameras do not hold their value very well. There's a few good deals on the market place right now so if I act quick I think I'll at least be able to land the body soon.

Love that shot Rene! Brody, hope you get your M9 soon too. The 35/1.2 is an awesome lens you're going to have a ton of fun with it. Coming from a solid camera like the RX1 I hope you can still enjoy the quirks in a Leica system

Congrats on your purchase, Edward! I really loved having my hands on that lens, and look forward to receiving mine as and when it pleases MM. Leica. OTOH, your comments about clinical rendering and relative lack of 3D don't jive with my own impressions on a A7R. 3D was simply best ever, and rendering could only be called clinical significantly stopped down (at least f:5.6)
