I am struggling very much with the jpeg export. It seems the quality of the picture is reduced quite a lot when I export it as jpeg and it appears sh...ty and smudgy as if you sucked the life out of it. Someone please shed some light on it. I know there was a script to use in PS for web sharpening etc and if I am not wrong (Ron), it was denoir who had talked about it.

I don't like to add sharpening to my pics, I don't think its necessary unless you're printing or if it really does lack sharpness. Your image looks like its in perfect focus so there's really no need to add anymore. That and the combined effect of flickr sharpening could be why it looks so aggressive.

Ron, thanks for addressing my problem. I most of the times just export from CO and have the default sharpening at the time of export to jpeg. Only rarely would I play with CS6. I will try to export as bigger size file and see if this would help.
Rirakumar, I think the last image looks over sharpened because I felt the image does not have much details and looks smudgy so I added sharpness but it ended up being too much. Thanks for your input.

This little guaytiaw restaurant is on the left bank of the River Ping in Chiang Mai, near large and well-known restaurants (Good View and Riverside) and antique shops and art galleries that cater to tourists. I went in when I saw that the clientele was local and that the menu on the wall was written only in Thai. The specialty is quaytiaw tom-yam: rice noodles in tom-yam soup.

These days there are two common problems with Thai food: rampant use of MSG (Ajinimoto) and excessive sweetness. When I sat down and ordered this dish I asked them not to put in MSG and not to add sugar.

The restaurant was full and two Chiang Mai women sat down at my table after ordering quaytiaw tom-yam at the cooking stall at the entrance. When we started a conversation they told me that this little restaurant was well-known and that it was a traditional family restaurant owned and run by an ethnic Chinese couple.

I spoke about how much sugar most Thai food had and that I had asked for no sugar in the dish I had ordered. One of the two woman said, "Aaah, we forgot to tell them not to add sugar" and ran over to the cooking stall to ask the owner not to use sugar.

It's a general problem throughout Thailand and in Thai restaurants overseas. A few weeks earlier I had eaten the same dish in Bangkok but had forgotten to ask for no sugar to be added: the dish was as sweet as a dessert and inedible.

Regarding sharpening I normally use usm 0.3/150 after web resizing. I sometimes reduce it to 0.3/100 for portraits or when it looks too much.

Just seeing if anyone is paying attention.
Maybe I was thinking of the 21 Lux, because this one feels wider than the previous one, but it's definitely the 28 Cron. I didn't use anything else that outing, proving I can indeed stick to one lens.

In this new-weather-every-second-day winter it is now snowing a lot today so here is a snow-selfie with M9 and 75 Summarit.

So Mitch, do you speak Thai?

I'm currently Leica-less at the moment... sent her to NJ for examination. I feel naked. It's weird. I keep fighting my urge to browse the B&S forum.

I know how you feel, mine was away for quite some time to Germany about a year ago. A Leica M camera is certainly more than just another tool.

OMG Joakim, that looks COLD!

I do have a film body - have been shooting it with the ZM 35/2 on it for a week now. Only used the M-E for a session I had the day before I shipped it off. I just need to dust off the darkroom (which hasn't been used for almost a YEAR) and get to developing! Yes, guys, I still have a fully working darkroom with enlarger and all!
