GREAT stuff on page 1120! Allow me to bring the quality down a notch

I was getting frustrated with my inability to get a photo in focus and realized my rangefinder needed calibrating. I did a little DIY infinity adjustment last night and all seems much better.

It's exciting to see a lot of the work on here and it motivates me to keep experimenting with this new system.

Do you all mostly pre-focus or use hyper focal distances?

It depends,

When working really fast I always hyper focus using the DoF scales.

But it's advisable to not focus on your subject after raising the camera to your eye then yes? I'm very comfortable with rangefinder mechanics, but up to now I mostly shot static subjects with them. Just enjoying learning a new way to work

Above 28 cron WO, which after trying to hit the 75 lux all the time is a joy
Outside we had some pretty flat light, here at f/5.6

Most of my shots are static thus I focus just as I am shooting. If it is action I usually prefocus if possible or focus on the fly.

Gary - Nice bonding project! I remember building those as a kid every winter, or variations on them. For a while, the city had these really cool huge 'snowblower' attachments for large front end loaders for clearing streets. I think most homeowners hated those because they'd shoot huge piles of dirty, salty snow onto everyone's lawns. But that force-compacted snow sure made for great reinforced snow fort walls and quasi igloo structures...
However, no dried fish.
Charlie - 28 Cron was my guess. really like the dynamics of the second one.
Allen - fantastic! Great to see the 'old' classics again mixed with some of the new work. You really have an eye for this kind of work.

I try to keep focus set at a distance I think I'll be shooting at. With many of the Leica lenses having focusing tabs, you can also use the position of the tab to get a 'feel' for where your focus is and adjust accordingly as you're lifting the camera to your eye. I will shoot immediately at the preset distance if the moment is imminent, but will also adjust focus as I'm shooting. At wider apertures you definitely want to get the focus right. And as I'm sure you can imagine, this kind of approach is much easier with a moderately wide lens than with a 50 or longer. One of the things I had to constantly remind myself while shooting moving subjects was that with the rangefinder it's possible, and desirable, to keep focusing as you're shooting. There isn't any kind of viewfinder blackout during the moment of exposure, so it's possible to tweak it right at that moment, if necessary.

Here's one of my favorites from Saturday evening at the Art Gallery of Ontario:
