Ron - we need you to tell us what lens Michael used please! Maybe M240 + 50lux R?

Look back images myself, I will guess either 75 summicron or 50luX if I am the one guess.

I will wait for Ron then it is a new lens.

Edward, nice image, you give up so quick
Gary, I will get M240 right away if my M9 worth a little more, Haha.
Adam, I know this is difficult. But good thing is no pressure as it is too difficult to guess anyway.

I will disclosure soon.

You don't seem far enough away for it to be a 75.
Bokeh looks slightly to nice to be the 50 1.5 Sonnar. But maybe

Er, I got lucky once! No pressure. And good thing I checked in otherwise you might be waiting.... At the airport waiting for my flight to Dallas for the game tomorrow. I'm on my phone, so difficult to really judge..

Richard: shooting Leica requires discipline! It doesn't coddle you with safety nets left right and centre. But I agree with you about the RX1's image quality... Oh that lens!

Wait, Michael, you didn't already get a ZM 35/1.4??

At first I thought 50 Lux ASPH before reading the rest. I assume no M240, so it should be an RF lens. Nocti 0.95? Though I don't see the edge vignette and effects I would expect. Maybe 75 Cron, 50 Cron of whatever vintage? It better not be a Hexanon 60/1.2....! Though again, don't see its distinct wide open character... (Assuming these were shot wide open). Whatever the lens, it has nice controlled character.

Michael, please enlighten us

Allen, very nice! I'm putting my recently acquired Filson medium field bag through it's first field test with this trip. Rather than bringing my Arc'teryx Blade 24, I stuffed in my M240, 28 Cron, 21SEM, 50 Lux ASPH and CV12 in a Domke bag (don't remember the model), 11" MacBook Air, accessories and some shirts and underwear. Pretty amazed how much I could stuff in. But for regular photo use I still need to figure out an insert solution. I like your solution!

I went with black, which goes with my usual apparel, but one thing I don't like about it is it really shows a lot of lint. Might have to pack a lint roller...

Ron,
I was using a USMC officers musette bag but it was just a little large.

And for my Canon stuff I use this with insets from an old Nat Geo bag

Holds 2 5DIIs 200 2L, 24L, 35L and 85L. Extra batteries, charger, tools and all kinds of other things.

Haha, Guys, I flipped over the cliff

Ron, I need cancel my preorder of zeiss 35mmlux.

It is a Summarit-S 70mm f/2.5 ASPH. I just got them yesterday. I will put more my thought about combo once I put more stock into it One thing I can tell based on this morning snap shots, it is pure enjoyment for manual focus. The focus screen is sensitive show slightly DOF difference between f2.5 and f2.8, so that is good sign, though I don't have any f2 lens, the only one from leica line is 100 summicron. I might start a new journey for alter MF lens on this body. Who knows.

At least an image. 21 biogon

Zhangyue, that's cheating! We all assumed you were shooting with your M9. I thought the aov looked like a 50 though. Congratulations! Please show us more!

I that that's it, discipline. I haven't shot film for a while either, which is where my other RF was at. But even then, with negative film, exposure was "easy" in a way. I don't think I'm quite ready to uncover the screen yet, just need more discipline .

Do you lean towards something like half a stop underexposing with your m240? Or do you just put it down to really knowing your meter and camera well? Any tips? Your exposures are always very "rich", which I think says a lot.

, there is some Leica M resemblance in the character, but more controlled/refined than the fast 50s. I had a chance to briefly use one when I met Joe last month... It seemed nice and the sensor reminded me a lot of the M9, but seemed even more pushable. I just don't like the size... The lenses are big and the hoods are massive. Of course another debate is whether the somewhat larger sensor has any real advantage over the 36MP FF sensors? I guess it makes some sense to you. Considering you're a Nikon shooter, what do you consider the Leica S advantage?

If anyone, Adam should have picked this one.

Richard: I try to get it within a stop and shoot at ISO 200 as much as possible. At higher ISOs it needs more care. The closer to 3200 the less flexile the files are before you notice banding. I also don't like the new metering that relies on live view, so I stick to the old version. If it's sunny, I'm generally sunny f16. If the situation allows, I'll shoot a test shot to determine exposure and lock it manually. My feeling is the M240 will tolerate at least a stop overexposure, so shooting it hot isn't the same risk as with the M9. The thing to watch with the old Leica metering is if there is any bright spot in the metering area, it will probably really throw off exposure. I saw this with my GF's results when she wanted to learn the M9.

zhangyue - Summarit-S 70mm f/2.5 ASPH.

Edward is right, we thought you were shooting on your M9. Funny thing is. I notice the difference between your Nikon shots and your Leica M shots. But this seemed very Leica M9... What consistency.

I can MAYBE see it in the first shot, but not in the second or third shots. And I knew something was wonky with the perspective.

HAHAHA... Rub it in. Something was off, I just didn't think he would have bought an S system. So anything but M/M-adaptable lenses was off the table.

Yeah, just messing with you, Adam.

He only said new lens, so of course we were all thinking M9.

Can we get Paul to finally change the thread name to include the S system? I now count three: Joe, C.D. (ocean) and Michael.

Is it a Summarit-S 70mm f/2.5 ASPH?

Edit - oh, I see Michael posted the answer....

Congratulations on the new combo! I would love to use one but it feels just a bit too big for me. However, if I found one for a very cheap price, I would probably try it out. I tried one out in the camera store for 1/2hr and loved the output from it. You are right about the focus accuracy - so precise. Also, I really do like the look and feel of the Pentax 645Z as well...

Which camera body did you buy?

Am I the only one here who actually didn't find manual focus easy? Has anyone else here used a Contax645 and a Leica S system? Does anyone here have experience with the Pentax 645z. I was considering trying it.

But seriously, I'm jealous. I almost took the dive into the S-system a while back. Held out, but if you keep posting great images, you might change my mind.

Joe hasn't been around lately.. Or am I wrong?

Out with family now, I will answer more in detail why I bought the system, what is my thought about it and how it compare to D810.
there is lots of trade off going for sure.
The camera I bought is S2 the cheapest one I can try, I mainly manual focus, so I don't really need a S06/07, plus $ difference is huge and make no sense to me. I love its sensor. The color is more like a M8 than M9 based on what I see but they are similar enough.
The both lens I bought 70&35 are sharp straight to extreme corner right from WO, if view 50% 18M, there is no sharpness difference between WO to f5.6 anywhere from frame. At100%, f4 almost reach peak I feel.
To be continued
