Ron, I was on the same version but have now upgraded to 1.202. Unfortunately this means I probably have any bugs introduced between the two versions in my M9 now but since it's quite easy to downgrade I'm willing to try it out.
Adam, this is the absolute darkest time of the year in Sweden. Right now the day is just a little more than 6 hours and the night almost 18 hours long here in Stockholm. But already in a few days they days will start to get longer again.

Oh crap, I forgot.. I was only there in the summer when it was bright from 3am till 12am and from 12:01-2:59 it was hardly dark... More like a slight dusk.. Although I was there a few days before the summer solstice (whatever it's called). So I'm assuming I was there for literally the longest days of the year.

Agree, a great thing happens when you stop eating gluten and dairy. Some people have a better tolerance for everything they ingest, I'm not one of those people. Glad to hear it, seems like he's a great member of the family!

I bought something from their Veilance line recently, it's was made in Canada. A few things are, but your'e right, most stuff isn't anymore. Which isn't to say it's not good. I love all my arcteryx gear (have a lot of winter stuff, considering I live on a tropical island).

Somehow I missed your comment.. Now that I've read it, I'll comment again. I actually try to wear wool or cashmere plus leather or shearling, when I can. I don't care much for the synthetic stuff on a day to day basis. Not that I'm snooty, but I find that synthetic stuff (next to my skin) actually makes me feel colder. HOWEVER, there is a time when natural stuff doesn't jive well with what I'm doing (as it can be heavy and not good in rain/wet). So when skiing or doing anything outdoors where I need to be light but warm. My first layer is wool undies, followed by wool tights and wool long sleeve shirt (100% or at least 98% with a bit of lycra or something for stretch). Then on top of that I like either core loft or down fill (depending on how compact I need to look or warm I need to be. Sometimes top only, sometimes top and bottom). Then I'll take a shell maybe soft-shell, but mostly hardshell. Usually I can get away with just wool tights and a soft-shell bottom. But on top I mostly go for hard-shells as they seem to work for my body.
My wife is the opposite, she has to wear synthetic underlayer as her first layer, or she's not warm.

Paul Yi - Nice Contax G shots. Haven't looked into how you make those two items work together. Had all the Contax G lenses at one point. Somewhat regret selling off my G stuff twice.

Charlie - indeed, all you need is to be able to make an image at the right moment for successful sports photography. It can't get much simpler than Leica M in that respect. Love the pop and the scene of the third one!
Werner - lovely subtle tonality.
Paul - I like the mood of the second.
Edward - really enjoying these. I wonder too, what happens with all those car parts? Are they actually sold sooner or later, melted down, etc.? Seems like these guys are almost the equivalent of the folk in and around China smashing up dead electronics for the valuable metal content.

Thanks guys for chiming in about my GoreTex question. And great to have you back to the thread, Peter. I was thinking very much about you and your experience in the mountains. I agree there are aspects of synthetics and hard-shells that are somewhat undesirable, such as the noise and rigidity, especially in colder conditions. There's also the problem around open flame of melting holes in them from flying embers, etc. My GF is a big Patagonia fan and MEC here in Canada now has in-store boutiques in some locations. I can appreciate the benefits of certain natural fibers such as wool, having recently bought a bunch of wool synthetic blend t-shirts (Canadian made BTW) at Costco, of all places. While they're not going to be Patagonia brand quality, I've been wearing them all year and especially appreciated how they kept me comfortable during the summer shooting weddings. Never got the wetness I would from cotton. While in NYC during the summer I picked up some of the airism shirts from Uniqlo, which seem pretty decent for the price. I recently picked up a satchel bag from Filson, which tuned me into that brand. Exploring their catalog and they seem to have some fairly interesting wool coats. It was interesting to read the user reviews... some we wearing coats handed down to them from their fathers. Says something for the durability and quality of the materials and sounds like it is a good cold weather solution too, even in wet conditions, to an extent. I've always been of the 'technical materials' mindset when it comes to outdoor uses in questionable weather, but this has got me thinking otherwise.
Anyway, back to some photos...

Ron, great colors and sharpness. The golden tones contrasting with the dark electric blue. Very nice! As for your question, there are many junkyard areas around Bangkok. These shops sell car spareparts, mostly agricultural machines, and also sell the metal to be melted/recycled.
Edward - I also love people shots but I am not very good at them. At least in in a fast paced street type environment... The man in my pic was a very interesting character. I made a donation to his tin and then gestured with my camera to get his ok for a few pics. He nodded and smiled - no problem. Just after I moved on, another guy with a big DSLR came by and started snapping away. This old guy got so upset with him and was telling him to go away. Two completely different experiences!
Nice story Gary and it shows that you have the feel for street. I would have done exactly the same. Every subject needs an incentive to make him willing to be photographed. I find that the interesting characters don't need much convincing Great photo, I really like it.

Ron - Nice colors! Also what Filson bag did you get? I was waiting to see what the magnum bags looked like before I pulled the trigger on a Filson bag. But once I seen them in person I decided against them, I don't think the magnum series would fit my shooting style. But the bags look nice, and I'm half tempted to get one and stick an insert inside.
As for good wool t-shirts (sorry again OT) I like the icebreaker tech t-lite.. They're really light wool, and you can wear them in the summer or the winter. In fact, I wear them all year round, and love that they regulate my body temp (again wool works well for me, not my wife though, so individual experience may vary). Uniqlo is also great. I pick up their light marino wool sweaters. Fantastic when on sale ($20usd) they're soft and warm enough for fall weather. The airism shirts I couldn't get use to prefer Nike dri-fit (which sucks because they're like triple the price or more).
PLEASE PLEASE PEOPLE talk me out of buying the Leica M60. I was at the store today and was holding one and thinking about how I should just buy it and sell of my backup M240 and a few lenses I don't use.
Honestly, I think I would have pulled the trigger if the price were the same, but instead of the 35FLE they were giving away a special edition 50APO. I just don't like the idea that the only lens that matches that camera, is the one that comes with it. As I am not a 35 walk around kinda guy..
SO TEMPTED by the whole no screen experience. It would discipline the heck out of me. Really make me conscious of my metering more then I am already.
Adam - does the M60 also come with the 28 Lux? While at PhotoPlus Expo in NYC the Leica guy reluctantly let me handle the 28 Lux and the build quality was fantastic, but he wouldn't bring the camera out... Would this camera be for work or pleasure? I would be a bit nervous about using it for weddings, etc., only because there would be no way of seeing images to determine if the camera was suddenly having problems. Yeah, I know, back in the film days it was the same deal, but considering the size of memory cards, etc., one could shoot endlessly during an event and never realize there was something wrong until later...
But from the less logical, more emotional perspective, it is a cool camera and would certainly be a talking point. I'm sure it would blow away a lot of people to know it was digital, without an LCD, and not a film camera.. considering how everyone already seems to think an M9 or M240 is an old film camera.
As for the Filson bag - it's the Medium Field Bag, with the oiled (waxed) cloth material. But I think it's now a discontinued model because I can't find it on their site. Rather than the metal hardware and leather straps, it's plastic and nylon, so doesn't look as classic as the regular Field Bag, but I figured, it looks less flashy. It was on sale for ~$100 back in September, but I only recently got it, having had it delivered to a relative in the US. So far I like it, but I'm not sure I would have paid ~$180 for it regularly. While it's a touch bigger than I'd like for my regular Leica kit, it works and I just have to figure out an insert system for it. It is also good for a few medium sized SLR lenses, flashes, etc.. and is pretty comfortable to carry. I'll have to do a short writeup on it once I get the details figured out.
Hi Ron, it's a nice looking bag. I actually have a few bags I use for my cameras, depending on what I'm bringing (system/number of lenses).
For Leica I have the ONA Brixton - Dark Truffle Leather. I find it to heavy, which is why I'm asking. My wife wouldn't let me get the cloth version as she said it makes me look like a school boy (although I love waxed canvas). And when I tried to explain that the leather one was heavier she told me to suck it up
As for the M60. I don't know if the color of the body is the same as the 100 years edition. I know that the lens for the M60 is the 35FLE (wish it was the 50APO, as I'd actually have bought it).
The problem is, the lens itself doesn't look like the lenses from the 100y edition (they have different color lettering among other things). So I don't think that I'll ever get a lens to match the M60 aside from the 35FLE it comes with.. And buying the M60 wouldn't be for work, but purely for outings. The "every day camera". So really it's not a practical purchase (since my every day lens is the 50APO). I think this round I'm just gonna save my pennies and see what Leica has in store for their next limited model.
IDEALLY speaking, I'd like a blackened titanium version of the M60 w/50APO rather then 35FLE.. If Leica did that, I'd be like "take my money now!"
Although to be fair, it's a sexy camera, and I love the way it looks after seeing it in person today.. So much so, I'd consider walking around with a 35FLE as an everyday lens.
On a completely different note. I asked this question above and nobody responded.. How do I tell what diopter I need. Do I go get an eye exam? Does the exam slip say +1 -1 etc?
Easier than A7 for me now.
