This cloud changed and disappeared really quickly. I guess I was lucky to have the right amount of light on the cloud, the building and in the windows.

Thanks Ron. Butch, our Springer Spaniel will do OK. He's been through worse as he's pretty good in the field hunting pheasants. He's going on 10 and most people who meet him think he's still a pup. Mr. Energy.
One from the morning and one from the evening with the M9 and the 75/2.4 Summitar. I've been using a quite old firmware version so far but now that my new Summitar shows up as uncoded I think I'm going to upgrade after all (I'm such an EXIF junkie ).

And no, I haven't found anything better then Gore-Tex. There are a few alternatives, soft-shell type materials (all major brands have them). Also some Gore-Tex "clones" (legally their own version of essentially gore-tex material), but better to just play it safe and stick with what works. I personally like Arcteryx and Norrona then Marmot (they all have gor and soft-shell alts). I find the fit of the first two brands a bit better. And Arcteryx is MADE IN CANADA so you know it's gonna be good
The problem with soft shells is that they're great for high aerobic winter sports, but not great in straight up rainfall. Gore-tex really just wins out for that. And it's still breathable. I mean, you could wear a plastic bag and get the same effect, but you'd die underneath it.

pandorf - Hope your dog is ok, cute cone of shame shots though! My dog was getting older (11y, grumpy, didn't wanna play), and my other dog had bumps all the time since being a puppy and was given something detrimental to his lifespan (cyclosporin) as a treatment that wasn't working and made him obese (4 vets though he had an autoimmune disease). Finally I said enough is enough with the vets and I switched my dogs over to a completely raw diet (against all 4 vet recommendations). I feed them really fatty raw meat (switch between beef, lamb, mutton (old sheep), goat) with some raw bones, egg w/shell and organ meat plus a bit of herbs (mainly cilantro). And my one dogs a puppy again (or acts like it), and my other has no skin problems anymore and is skinny, well they're both at an ideal weight now with tons of energy. Here are a couple samples of bad flare with the 50 Lux ASPH, probably at or near wide open. If not wide open, then in the 2-2.8 range. Shot on the M9 just over a year ago..

Adam - thanks for that info. I'm a bit Arc'teryx fan too... I was buying The North Face shells at outlets (I know, I know...) and they were eventually leaking, so you can imagine my excitement when I discovered the one and only Arc'teryx outlet in the US (Pleasant Prairie, WI)!
BTW, if you're ever in the Toronto area, there's a newly opened Arc'teryx outlet on the QEW between St. Catharines and Niagara Falls. As for made in Canada... not sure about the top end gear, but the Theta shell I have is China and the Blade 24 I just bought to replace my worn out 10 year old Blade 21 is Philippines.... Apparently the outlet is extremely popular with Chinese tourists.

That's the rainbow striation flare I've talked about.. Good old 50Summilux!
Yeah, a lot of Arcteryx stuff is now made in China. The top end stuff (and their other lines Leaf / Veilance) are still made in Canada AFAIK. I have half half. And to be honest, I haven't had any problems with the China stuff yet.
I haven't been to Toronto in ages, I'll have to check it out next time I'm back. Wish I wouldn't have sold off my apartment, I checked recently and it's worth almost triple what I sold it for (and we're talking only 6 years have passed).
Ron, Adam, Another Arcteryx fan here. They used to be #1 in hard shell, before all their stuff made in Canada, but since acquired by saloman/adidas several years ago, their product quality go down hill or trying broad itself to wider market, a lots of low end stuff introduced since then, and many of them made in China, though top end stuff quality is still one of best, especially hard shell. Their jackets were way cooler than competition 5~6 years ago. Now, not as much. These days, I love patagonia stuff, espeically wool, fleece and kids cloth but do feel Arcteryx's hard shell is still the best

Well, I was so long away from the forum, that I don't know wehre to start. Although I spend a great amount of time with my dog in the mountains, I wasn't photographing much, sometimes the motives are the same, the light/weather is boring or I am not motivated enough. Since it is christmas time I thought it would be a good time to pass by and wish everyone a wonderful christmas/holiday time with their family.
I am heading on the 25.12. for ten days to Dolomities for backcountry ski touring, but snow conditions are pretty bad.
I scrolled through the last pages, lots of great pictures with a wide spectrum, just like always.
Regarding GORE-TEX and all other membranes:
I personal hate them! They are loud and I didn't found a membrane where I don't get soaked from inside, when walking up to a summit. As a consequence, I only wear them if it really rains and there is no other way around. Therefore I have aways in my backpack a light- or medium weight hardshell, just in case. I also try to avoid brands which have almost fashion status, and being seen worn in every shopping street of the world. In a very cold, dry winter enviroment I wear only membrane free fabrics like canvas, leather, Ventile, EtaProof, wool or loden. In the alps also light synthetic fabrics.
Further more I try to choose companies which are a member in a program like "Fair wear foundation". There is nothing worse then expensive clothing which is fabricated in a third world country under terrible working conditions, but charging high end prices.
Ron, I was on the same version but have now upgraded to 1.202. Unfortunately this means I probably have any bugs introduced between the two versions in my M9 now but since it's quite easy to downgrade I'm willing to try it out.
Adam, this is the absolute darkest time of the year in Sweden. Right now the day is just a little more than 6 hours and the night almost 18 hours long here in Stockholm. But already in a few days they days will start to get longer again.
Peter - hope you also have a great holiday season. Be sure to post some pics from your outing when you return! I lovet those scenic mountain shots you often post...
Edward - wow, more nice shots. I love the "grungy-ness" of these shots. They do well with the higher contrast treatement and darker tones throughout.
Ron - I have also had some flare with the 50lux but it happens very rarely. It happened more so with my 50lux pre-asph.

Thanks Adam. I will check out your wife's blog. We change our dog's food regularly and stick to the "organic" one meat versions with as little grain as possible. Too much protein for this guy keeps him amped up and hot. Two of his grandparents are field champions in the bird hunting arena and at ten years old he's non stop. We do occasionally go to a raw diet and now I'm feeding him "people" food.
As a family we've moved away from gluten and dairy several years ago and it has made a big difference in our lives too.
Adam, as far as I know was Arc'Teryx made in Canada in the past. They have already since a couple of years 22 different production facilities spread over the world. But quality is still great and they pay great attention that the working conditions are on a certain level.
