Thanks Charlie.... I tried with all my PP ability to CMOS anonymize that Central Park scene. It was interesting to process that outing and be reminded about what does and doesn't work in post with the M9. Basically you have to embrace its look. With the M240 I do feel there is a lot more flexibility and it has an inherently softer tonality. As with the M9, with the M240 I find I just go with the flow. BTW, my M9 was bought used in November 2010 from Lensrentals. I suspect it was their first copy, or one of the first, so probably late 2009.
Edward - thanks for the heads up. I'm in no rush and should see if it's something I can clean off... It looks a lot like the posted examples of the problem, so assumed it was.

Joakim - Congrats! Really great rendering in those. Feels very Leica to me. I've briefly used the 75 Summarit and thought it was a somewhat stronger performer than the 90. A bit sharper and snappier, though the 90 is no slouch. I agree, at least about the 90, that the focus throw is fast and can be tricky to nail focus wide open.
Duane - love the contrast. Here are a couple for you from NYC, with the M9 and 28 Cron along similar lines:
That mid afternoon, low on the horizon late fall light is amazing and seems ready made for the M9's tonality characteristics...

That's a pretty long run for your M9 with still just a few splotches. I somehow have the idea there were two different formulations, the first brittle, and the second corroding.

To be fair to the M240, it's midway between M9 and Sony. Having now shot all three a7 flavors, those raw files are really flat and muted compared to the M240. Well, so are the Canon files I work with regularly.
Since we're on a new page, here's a bunch more along 6th Avenue:
I'm just kidding of course, the 240 sensor is miles ahead of the Sony, real world. . Even with the 55, you have to deal with those Sony Raws.
But Michael and Edward made it look very good, as do many others in the Sony thread.

I predict within a few years we will see a whole new class of FF sensors which will let our wides work well in a variety of bodies. This is what I'm talking about
I would love to have something much smaller than the M9, and someday somebody will come to their senses and fill the niche. Even M6 size would be huge improvement for my needs.

Told you it was easy to make the M240 files look like M9. Just shoot a heavily corroded bridge! I'm only kidding. I can equally appreciate both the M9 and M240 output.

interstellar IMAX DOME
I was in discreet mode, mute my camera after every shot, no one was noticed. The movie is too good to do this, I give up shooting after 5 frame or so except last one
I am noticing a slight purple cast on the right side of the frame. Normally it doesn't disturb but in some shots it becomes too obvious. What lens profile would you recommend? I guess the 35 cron pre-asph should be fine?
Michael, love the rendering. Maybe Leica should have quit at version one of the 35 Cron? Though I suppose, based on performance numbers, it wouldn't stand up to the current competition.
I also saw Interstellar in the IMAX film (analog) version, though it wasn't a dome theatre. Still, it was massive and impressive. I guess pretty soon that will be all digital...
Werner - wow, is that something part of a 'factory tour' one can take while visiting Leica? Indeed, Leica lenses are gems. Even if I haven't posted it each time, I've really enjoyed your images.

M9 & 28 Cron. Shot at ISO 160 for sunshine exposure and pushed in post, both overall and with spot adjustments... some were probably pushed 3-4 stops in areas. A reminder to me of how hard one can push the M9 files and they still look decent. I'm finding with the M240 I can probably shoot about a stop hotter, recover more of the highlights and not have to push the shadows as much, which it also doesn't tolerate as well, unless using the 'green shadows fix' LR plug-in to counteract.
Thank you very much Ron. Your last few sets are such great study in color street photography. What I find amazing is the consistency of the look you get whether with the M240 or the M9. It's candy to my eyes.
Ron, about 35mm, indeed it can't compete RX1, but I can't even say it doesn't meet my requirement no matter slow down or WO, it is really good good enough. And whole experience just lovely on M body, I always get lots of inquiry whenever I put it on my M9, 'cool camera', 'so cool', 'that is beautiful setup there' etc... and I start appreciate its rendering which I didn't before.
About interstellar, yeh, that whole film is by 'film', I can see the noise grain easily and a lots of small particle/stuff on the screen. The color and skin tone was just amazing, I can't help watch movie this way for a while now since I am into photography
Thank you Zhangyue! The photo of your son with the yellow coat is really outstanding. Great skin tones and the yellow is just the right intensity. The natural vignetting really adds to the effect.
Edward - nice night scenes. I love walking around at night with interesting scenery such as what you captured.
