M9 + CV 35/1.2 v1 WO no post (exposure comp - 2/3)

@Ron Austria was 30 years past, I lived in St Jacob, near St Anton, where I taught. I made some side trips but the names of those little towns have faded, sorry to say, so Zillertal does not stand out in my memory, but I must have driven near it at some point.

Werner - very cool!
Huss - very dramatic tonality!
Charlie - great use of a great lens!
No worries about Zillertal, just thought I'd toss it out there. The towns around there that I'm familiar with are Mayrhofen and Finkenberg...
SKumar - the 21 SEM is the perfect lens for such a scene.

A few random shots from Central Park...

M240 & 28 Cron x3, ZM 50/2 for last one.

Anyone worried much about their M9's sensor corroding/delaminating? I'll have to take a closer look at mine... At least it seems Leica is standing behind their product. Wonder how this affects how much longer they were planning to keep the M-E and MM in production and maintain a supply of replacement sensors?

I am not directly worried but it feels reassuring to know that Leica is prepared to help if it does happen.

Gary, I am not sure why but I really like that photo.

Ron, love those Central Park Shots. Takes me back to the 90s when a client loaned us his rooftop apt a block from MOMA for a 10 day honeymoon. NYC is so killer. My fave is the planar shot.

Many of us want no other camera than the M9, and Leica's new stance, which was predicted by Brian Sweeny---the guy who also had the most clear and detailed exposition of the issues---is a big relief. Now we don't have to get another camera and will not hesitate to add a MM when the prices come down a bit.

No doubt the masters can make the 240 sing, but plodding "just be there" types like me are hooked on the look like heroin, whiring shutters and grainy LCDs be damned!

Ty for your kind words on my last set with the CV 35/1.2. I was lucky in the light there, as the CV decided to render quite close to the real thing Hue is everything, and both the M9 and CV 35/1.2 are crazy sensitive to it.

But the CV 35/1.2 is an easy lens WO compared to the CV 50/1.1 aka Noctisina:

all WO minimal or no post.

There are some silly people who think you need live view to shoot super speed (I once was one). In fact my hit rate is way higher now with the RF than A7 EVF. Last winter I would not have believed this was possible.

I agree Charlie. My RF focusing is way faster than with LV, and much more accurate than with a DSLR OVF.

Ron, as you know my sensor delaminated and I had it fixed by Leica free of charge. It was the reason of my premature upgrade to the M240 as I had planned to keep the M9 around 3 years. I probably would have gotten the M240P especially that it's selling cheaper than what I paid for the M240 last February. If your M9 doesn't show corrosion spots yet, chances are it never will. Most users say corrosion starts showing quite early, though it increases with time.

Thanks guys. I think what caught my attention most from Leica's statement was the trade-in offer towards an M240. Assuming this applies to any M9, I'd be quite interested since I rarely use my M9 regularly and keep it primarily for backup purposes. I haven't even bothered to look at selling it privately since it has a ton of actuations and is well used. If Leica made a generous offer, I'd be very tempted.

A few random shots from Midtown Manhattan...

wow, paul gorgeous

@Ron If i was in your shoes, and prefer the 240 as you do, I would certainly inquire about an upgrade, which Leica implies is available.

Another path would be to send the camera in now and see if Leica wants to swap the sensor. Then you have a really sweet camera for sale or to keep whichever you prefer. They will go through it and may replace the shutter and other stuff too. They must replace the leatherette regardless, which is nice.

I was scared to buy an M9 with original sensor even before the latest kerfuffel. Fresh back from Leica your camera is easily worth 3500 today.

Since you are not using it this would not be very inconvenient for you.

Thanks Gary!
Thanks Charlie! Yes, that does make sense... though to send it in and be without it for months on end would leave me exposed without a backup in the M system... I could always fall back on my Canon gear. I'll probably sit on this for ~6-9 months in part to let the early rush clear out, but also to see what will come as an M240 replacement, which I expect at some point in 2015. Really like the color range and tonality in that one Charlie. It has great mood/atmosphere.

I'm also fond of the building shot posted just above... I almost walked right by it in my rush to get back to the ferry to cross back to NJ in time for the full moonrise. But noticed a couple security guards standing on the sidewalk at the edge of the property watching a guy hunched over on his knees on the sidewalk facing the building... as I got closer, I realized he was doing a low angle photo looking up. I can picture what he saw - the way the building's facade physically curves and recedes as one looks up. So decided to stop and try a couple myself, though of a different angle and view.

On the ferry heading back to NJ:

As I think I mentioned earlier in this series, looking back through the photos, I realized the two girls in the foreground were also on the ferry heading into the city earlier in the day... quite the coincidence.

M240 and 28 Cron for first two, ZM50/2 for last two.

Here's what I was rushing back to get...

But these were shot with the 1DX and 70-200/4 IS. Somewhere down my list of lenses to get is the Leica 180/3.4, which would be adaptable to the M240 (or Canon or Sony, etc.) and would have been great for this. But considering I didn't have a tripod with me, probably would have missed not having IS. Might be an argument for the a7 II or future a9...
